CPC STATEMENT ON THE 2020 U.S. PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) applauds the record turnout of Asian Americans, people of color, immigrants, and low-income voters in this historic election. We are grateful to partner organizations across the state and country with whom we have worked for the past four years simultaneously to conduct nonpartisan voter registration, outreach, and education and to reduce systemic barriers to voting and the electoral process.

The past four years have been marked by policies, budgets, and rhetoric that have deeply harmed the communities served by CPC. We are committed to working with the new Federal administration to begin the healing process, undo these harms, and implement policies that will address the global pandemic, reverse the economic crisis, and promote racial justice and immigrant rights.  CPC also acknowledges the historic election of Kamala Harris, the first Asian American and Black woman Vice President.

"The current Federal administration has devastated Asian American, immigrant and low-income communities, from enacting xenophobic immigration policies to dismantling the safety net and human services. We must continue building on the energy of this election's record turnout to hold our elected officials at every level accountable for passing comprehensive immigration reform, Medicare for All, and other policies that advance and transform our communities." said Wayne Ho, President & CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC).

CPC is part of NYC Nonprofits Turnout: A Voter Empowerment Project. This is a nonpartisan initiative to build on current civic engagement and voting across the city’s human services sector and the communities we serve in order to reshape our political and economic systems.
