CPC State Policy and Advocacy Priorities for FY24-25

CPC Staff Testify in New York City's FY25 Preliminary Budget Hearings

CPC staff, including Carlyn Cowen, Chief Policy & Public Affairs Officer; Po-Ling Ng, Associate Executive Director and Director of Open Door Older Adult Center; Meihua Yang, Entitlement Benefit Specialist; Erika Enchautegui, Provider Specialist for Early Childhood Learning and Wellness program; and Ashley Chen, Policy Analyst, advocated for various community needs during New York City's preliminary budget hearings in March.

They urged investments in immigrant communities, senior services, healthcare access, childcare, and the swift implementation of cost-of-living adjustments and wage increases.

On March 8th, CPC Nan Shan Older Adult Center held a Dim Sum brunch in Queens for over 500 community members, staff, and elected officials to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. Assembly Members Edward Braunstein and Ron Kim, Council Member Sandra Ung, Civil Court Judge Cassandra Johnson, and representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Grace Meng, Attorney General Tish James, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Assembly Member Catalina Cruz, and Assembly Member Steven Raga, joined.

CPC Receives $500,000 to Boost Mental Health Services Program

CPC Receives $500,000 from Senator Schumer to Boost Mental Health Services 

With the support of Senator Chuck Schumer, CPC was awarded $500,000 in the federal budget for the AAPI & Immigrant Mental Health Support Services initiative. This funding will empower CPC to expand access to direct mental health services, referral navigation, case management, outreach, and education efforts, benefitting up to 12,000 community members. Additionally, the initiative will combat the rise in anti-Asian violence through partnerships with local city, state, and federal agencies, elected officials, and peer nonprofits.

Wayne Ho Appears on NY1's In Focus With Cheryl Wills

On March 10th, CPC President & CEO Wayne Ho joined “In Focus With Cheryl Wills” on NY1 to discuss the positive effects of CPC’s learning labs in the Queens and Manhattan community centers. These labs benefit over 4,000 immigrants, youth, and older adults annually by providing resources such as English language learning and digital literacy classes. He also highlighted the importance of digital equity and internet access, particularly in areas like telehealth.

Alan Gerson Honored as a Trailblazer in Law

On March 18th, Alan Gerson, CPC's General Counsel, was recognized by City and State New York in its inaugural Trailblazers in Law list. The list celebrates legal professionals who are using their legal training to make the world a better place. Alan developed CPC's COVID-19 protocols and rules to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the pandemic and worked on legal and land use strategies for the CPC One development project.

Mitch Wu is Named in the Queens Power 100

Mitch Wu is Named in the Queens Power 100

On March 11st, City & State New York released its Queens Power 100 list. Among them is Mitch Wu, Director of CPC Queens Community Services, who was ranked 83rd on the list. He has helped organize solidarity rallies against anti-Asian violence and advocated for more state resources to support Asian American community organizations. He was also appointed by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards to the city’s Civic Engagement Commission.

CPC Advocates for Home Care in the State's Final Budget

On March 27th, CPC joined the NY Caring Majority, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and legislators in Albany to advocate for home care services in the State's final budget. We called for the inclusion of the Home Care Savings and Reinvestment Act and #FairPay4HomeCare to ensure that individuals receive the care they need and that home care workers are compensated for their services.
