Research

--------------------

As a partner with Roger Dudley and the Institute of Church Ministry. CYE will be featuring research in the area of youth and young adult ministry.

The first results are coming in from a new North American Division-wide study of youth and young adults and their involvement in the church. Over 200 NAD congregations were randomly selected. Youth and young adults up to age 30 who were present on a given Sabbath were invited to give feedback. Surveys have been received from more than 1100 of them. They were age-grouped as follows:

  • Under 16  = 38%
  • 16-19  = 33%
  • 20-25  = 17%
  • 26-30  = 12%

All the data is not yet in, so these results are a preliminary look. Please do not publish, but do discuss. Four of the items are given below. More will follow in future newsletters. Valid percentages have been recalculated without the missing system numbers. The four items are:

  • Older adults need to allow more youth and young adults to take more church leadership positions.
  • Have more youth days when youth and young adults will lead out in Sabbath worship services.
  • Offer more social and recreational events to make church life more enjoyable to young people.
  • Redesign Sabbath worship services to make them more innovative, upbeat and interesting.
