The Reading Hour Returns in 2015!

Dear friends and supporters,

We are pleased to announce that The official Reading Hour will return in 2015 on Tuesday the 18th of August!

Wrapping up another successful year uniting a national network around reading, we want to thank all the participants, schools, libraries, friends, supporters and ambassadors for your inspired efforts in celebrating and promoting reading nationwide – as the legacy of the National Year of Reading in 2012.

Another Successful year Celebrating & Promoting Reading Nationwide!

The most rewarding aspect of The Reading Hour for us, has been the positive feedback following the national events and the growing enthusiasm around this ongoing initiative year after year.

We congratulate and thank all participants for their creativity and imagination across the events this year which included: High Teas, themed picnics, pyjama parties, film screenings and so much more reading fun! Our much-loved national Ambassador, William McInnes was joined by Federal Member for Gellibrand, Tim Watts (both champions of reading!) at the Footscray Library Pre-School Storytime on 20 August. Very special thanks to the librarians, kids and supporters who made the event a great success.

Some Highlights from
The Reading Hour in 2014!

Norwood Primary Library
“I know the reading hour is past and gone but we are still smiling about the 65 people who came out to our Norwood primary Library to share books. Some children wore their onesies and so did some staff and parents! It was a wonderful response for our first Reading Hour event. Thanks for the challenge and encouragement to be involved.” Linda Guy, Assistant Principal, Norwood Primary

Hobsons Bay Libraries in Victoria
“Library staff created and starred in five videos reminding the community to take time out of their hectic schedules and indulge themselves with a book by spending some time reading on their own, or with family in this wonderful activity. We hope that the films inspire our local community to make reading a regular habit!” Rosemary Clark, Coordinator Marketing Hobsons Bay Libraries

Rosebud Secondary College
“YABBA ambassador Hazel at Rosebud Secondary College with wonderful Year 11 Courtney and the Rosebuddies who did the ‘Trail Magic’ themed picnic food lunch catering for the 50 invited guests in the library. These were students who were the best (most frequent) borrowers. ‘Trail Magic’ is kindnesses by strangers when travelling and should be passed on. Event funded by Copyright Agency and these students are the keenest group of readers I’ve had the pleasure to meet and a love of reading is certainly being passed on as literary magic. All promised to read to someone in their family for the READING HOUR that night.” Hazel Edwards O.A.M., National Reading Ambassador, A.S.A.Board of Directors

Until next year, remember to mark Tuesday 18 August 2015 in your diaries for the official 2015 Reading Hour. Share the word with your friends & networks ... and stay in touch with us year-round and connect with us on Facebook.

Thanks & best wishes,
