Dear Old Moretonian

The Front Hall at Moreton has been looking very festive recently with its wonderful Christmas Tree and the girls have been busy with end of term Carols, Concerts and Plays. They head home for the Christmas holidays today!

You will shortly be receiving your OM News in early January but we just wanted to update you on various Old Moretonian and Moreton successes.

Amongst all the sporting highlights this term was the wonderful victory of the U15 A & B and U14 A Lacrosse teams over Cheltenham Ladies’ College and Goldolphin, as well as the U15 Lacrosse Team being crowned Midlands School Champions, beating Wycombe Abbey, Stowe and St Helen & St Katharine.

As you will read in the Moreton Update, we are beginning to write the Moreton Centenary Book, filled with photographs and memories of Moreton over the decades. Whilst we have plenty of OM reminiscences and memories pre 1970s, we need the recollections and memories of those who were at Moreton from the 1980s up to the present day. Don’t be bashful – we really do want to hear from you. Email oldmoretonians@moretonhall.com

Jelly Eating Competition

SAVE THE DATE! An event taking place next term is the Moreton Business Lunch on Thursday 8th March 2012 with OM Laura Edwards (1997) as Guest Speaker. Laura is now Director of Brand Marketing for Miller Brands, the UK subsidiary of global brewer, SAB Miller and will be talking about her experiences in brand and trade marketing within the UK drinks industry. All Old Moretonians with a business interest are very welcome to attend and bring guests. The Lunch is free. Contact Vicky Stearns in the OM Office for further details.

The Moreton Auction of Promises in November raised over £20,000 for the Foundation. This is a phenomenal result and we are thrilled. Thank you to all Old Moretonians who gave Promises or donated in other ways – we are very grateful. The success of Moreton events like this really relies on the part that OMs play – thank you. The funds raised will go towards the new Science Building and the Centenary Scholarship. Further news about the Moreton Centenary Development Plan will follow in the Spring.

The Moreton Entrance and Scholarship exams take place in January; 11+ and 12+ on 18th and 19th January and the 13+ Entrance Exam on 25th and 26th January. The Year 3-6 Scholarships Exam takes place on Wednesday 7th March. There is of course a 10% Fee Remission for all Old Moretonians. For further details contact Sarah Hughes, Registrar on hughess@moretonhall.com.

Lastly, in the Telegraph Magazine (10th December 2011 issue), OM Jessica Hatcher (2000) has just written a stirring account of the trade in rhino horn which threatens to decimate this species. If you get the chance – have a read.

With best wishes for a Happy Christmas!
