Click here April 2022 Impact Newsletter CPC Beacon Community Center Hosts Family Health FairOn April 23rd, over 500 community members attended the Spring into Health Fair at the CPC Beacon Community Center at IS220 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn! The health fair had resources, arts and crafts, games, performances, and more. This was our first health fair in over two years, and we are thankful for the staff, partners, and students for participating!EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong. CPC Early Childhood Learning & Wellness Services Welcomes NYC DOE Deputy ChancellorCPC Early Childhood Learning & Wellness Services' Family Child Care Network was honored for the opportunity to host a visit from the NYC Department of Education's new Deputy Chancellor for the Division of Early Childhood Education, Dr. Kara Ahmed, as well as Maria Begg-Roberson, Senior Executive Director, Teaching and Learning, and Peggy Diercks, Chief Executive of ECE Learning and Partnerships, on April 19th, 2022. CPC Education & Career Services Team Retreats UpstateIn mid-April, CPC Education and Career Services staff, which includes youth programs and workforce development, visited a Fresh Air Fund camp in upstate New York for their first-ever team retreat. The retreat was an opportunity to plan innovative programming and learn skills from community building to change management. CPC's School-Age Childcare Centers Dance to Celebrate CPC's school-age childcare programs were visited by Dance to Unite recently for a special ballet class. The class not only learned about the history of ballet, but were able to learn a few steps firsthand! CPC's school-age childcare centers have worked with Dance to Unite, a nonprofit with a mission to use dance to celebrate cultural diversity, for five years. CPC Childhood Development Services Launched Family Days in March CPC Childhood Development Services hosted a series of Family Days during every Sunday in March. Each week highlighted a specific theme: Health and Wellness, Financial Literacy, Educational Resources, and Community Resources. Partner organizations specializing in these respective areas joined engage community members on their services. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age. Seniors of CPC Hong Ning Housing Visit the New York Botanical Garden On April 28th the CPC Wellness Program at Hong Ning Housing took seniors and their homecare attendants on a field trip to the New York Botanical Garden to see the orchard show. Residents got to witness Jeff Leatham’s kaleidoscope and tunnel of lights, where we saw orchards in every shape, color, and size. CPC is Proud to Join Alliance for Families with Developmental Needs April is Autism Awareness month, and CPC was proud to join Alliance for Families with Developmental Needs and other community partners to increase our understanding of those with Autism. We held a press conference to announce our workshops and events aimed at celebrating diversity and differing abilities throughout April. Thank you to Wei Zhang for representing CPC! CPC Join CACF and AAPI Organizations Launch Healing-Centered Youth Workshop SeriesCPC is proud to join the Coalition for Asian Children and Families (CACF) and seven other AAPI organizations in the launch of a co-created, healing-centered youth workshop series, the Healing Hub.COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENTWe empower New Yorkers to represent and to advocate for themselves and their communities because their leadership is essential for positive—and lasting—social change. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence. CPC Staff and Community Members Meet with Nearly 40 Elected Officials at 5th Annual City Advocacy Day On April 26th and April 27th, CPC held its 5th Annual City Advocacy Day, meeting with city elected officials and their staff, and rallying at City Hall with over 400 staff and community members in attendance. The focus of our meetings was on critical funding for our programs and human services staff, and how we need to invest in AAPI's long term healing and recovery. CPC Food Security Outreach Featured in DocumentedNY CPC Brooklyn Community Services was featured in an April 18th article from DocumentedNY about our food distribution programs. The article focuses on the persistent demand for food resources among immigrant communities, and the unfortunate slowing down of free food distributions and closures of community run pantries and food banks. CPC Chief Strategy Officer Brian Chen is Named in City and State's Nonprofit 40 Under 40! City & State, in partnership with its sister publication, New York Nonprofit Media, showcases a group of young, diverse leaders in the nonprofit world who are making a difference in New York. CPC Statement on the NYS FY 22-23 Enacted Budget The Chinese-American Planning Council is disappointed by the passage of a $220 billion budget that missed the opportunity to make deep, transformative investments in a just recovery for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, communities of color, immigrants, and low-income New Yorkers, despite some key smaller investments in critical programs.
