The Gazette's Halloween Parade rolls through downtown OKCThe Oklahoma Gazette’s Halloween Parade lurches onto the scene once again with its macabre celebration of artistry and creativity in Midtown and Downtown Oklahoma City on Saturday, Oct 27 at 7 p.m. Last year, the parade boasted attendance of more than 60,000 with almost 100 entries and more than 2000 participants and 200+ volunteers! This year, Downtown OKC, Inc. isn't just a sponsor - we're actually in the parade! We'll be riding Spokies bikes dressed as sock monkeys and passing out bananas... so keep your eyes peeled. Haunt the RiverHaunt the River will provide a day of adventure, treats and family fun on Saturday, Oct. 27, in the Boathouse District. The event will feature free s’mores and trick-or-treating for kids 12 and under, and a chance to watch youth rowing and kayak racing on the Oklahoma River. Admission and parking are free. The Boathouse District will also feature several new attractions for kids and adults during Haunt the River. Amenities include a rock wall, as well as inflatable surfing, obstacles courses and slides. These attractions are also available for use during birthday parties and private events. Oklahoma River Cruises will host 2012 Kid’s Haunt the River Cruises throughout the day. The cruises will include spooky cartoons and treats for kids. Zombies invade the Civic CenterOn Sunday, Oct. 28, thrill your little ghosts and goblins with an exciting Halloween concert, Phil's Monster Mash, in the BancFirst Family Series. The performance is one hour long with pre-concert lobby activities starting at 1:00 p.m. Learn the “Thriller” dance with the RACE Dance Company, decorate a pumpkin and then join in the performance with the Philharmonic! We’re giving “whistle fangs” to 700 children in the audience to play a special part in Cool Ghoul,a piece for orchestra. Pareidolia is the psychological phenomenon where one sees a vague or random stimulus and perceives it as something recognizable. Examples are the man in the moon, cloud shapes looking like animals, and Rorschach ink blot diagrams. This idea is at the heart of the featured work.
