Julia Gillard, the first woman to serve as prime minister of Australia (2010-13), will deliver the 90th Stephen A. Ogden Jr. ’60 Memorial Lecture on International Affairs.

The Lamphere Case: The Sex Discrimination Lawsuit that Changed Brown - Exhibit Opening March 5

On March 5, 2015, the Pembroke Center opens an exhibit that explores in detail the Lamphere case and its consequences. Based on extensive archival research and oral histories with key participants, the exhibit paints a vivid picture of why and how Brown changed during a key moment in its history and of the feminist activism that drove that change. Cracking the Glass Ceiling: Women Presidents and the Changing University - March 5

Brown University President Christina Paxson will host a public roundtable with women who have been presidents of major universities to discuss feminism and the challenges women leaders still face in the world of higher education.

Feminist Change and the University - March 6

Linking past and present feminist concerns, the symposium will open with a conversation between Louise Lamphere and Amy Goldstein ’79, reporter for The Washington Post, about the case and its aftermath. Later panels will focus on the way feminist scholarship continues to change what students study, how knowledge is made in the contemporary university, and the challenges and possibilities facing current and future generations of women at Brown.

National Diversity Summit - March 6-8

Students, faculty, staff, alumni, thought leaders and innovators will explore how higher education engages in the work of developing and sustaining an increasingly diverse and inclusive academic community. Through plenary panel discussions, workshops, interactive seminars, and networking activities, participants will engage in critical discussions that consider the broad range of identities, perspectives and experiences (race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, etc.) represented in higher education institutions today, and how relevant research and scholarship informs the work of advancing diversity and inclusion in the academy. The FLAME Conference - March 8

Brown University's 1st Feminist Conference for Rhode Island High School Students
The FLAME (Feminist Leadership and Mentorship for Equality) Conference will feature a variety of workshops run by Brown student groups and faculty for Rhode Island high school students. Workshop topics include gender inequality in the workplace, intersectionality, healthy relationships, and sexuality. The purpose of the conference is to provide an opportunity for feminist education to participants as well as to unite feminist-minded student groups at Brown. Sarah Doyle Women's Center 40th Anniversary Symposium - March 14

The symposium will discuss the activist history of the Sarah Doyle Women's Center as well as the different ways Brown alumnae have put feminist theory into action. The keynote speaker for the event will be Rinku Sen ‘88, the President and Executive Director of Race Forward and the Publisher of Colorlines.com.
