Our theme will again be: Take time — for mental health. Looking after our mental health will be very important this year. The outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted us all in varying ways and QMHW is our opportunity to come together and shine a spotlight on what we can do to improve mental health and wellbeing in our communities. Right now, we don’t know exactly what QMHW 2020 will look like, but we do know we will find ways celebrate, raise awareness and reduce stigma. If we can’t gather in-person at events we will come together online and through other activities that provide social connection, while we remain physically distanced. We will also think of innovative ways to communicate and engage with those who need support. GrantsThe Queensland Alliance for Mental Health on behalf of the Queensland Mental Health Commission will again run a small grant program to help local organisations across Queensland host activities during QMHW. The opening of the grants has been delayed until 1 June as we monitor the COVID-19 situation. In the meantime, why not put your thinking caps on and consider how you might host an activity to connect with your community should public gathering restrictions still be in place. This year's lookOur visual identity this year has been developed using the artwork ‘Communicate through our strengths’ by Aboriginal artist Ailsa Walsh. Commissioned for QMHW in 2018, this painting has a powerful message of the importance of communication and connection to mental wellbeing. It also highlights how technology can help us connect when we can’t be face to face. You can read more about the painting and Ailsa on our website. Staying in touchWe will keep you informed on QMHW 2020 through this newsletter and through our website and social media channels. We are also using social media to make you smile and provide links to expert information and advice. If you haven’t followed us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, please do. We look forward to chatting with you on there. #QMHW #TakeTime #valuementalhealth |
