MASSP is dedicated to keeping our members informed as the situation with COVID-19 develops. This week you will receive the COVID-19 updates you have come to expect on Wednesday and Friday only.  As you begin to implement your Continuous Learning Plans and engage with teachers, students and parents we will honor your time and reduce the amount of communication we are sending.

If you have resources or information you think should be included in an upcoming update or on the MASSP COVID-19 resource center, please send them to Alicia Pilmore for consideration.

New EO Extends Stay Home, Starts Some Cautious Reopening

Michigan's Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives plan will remain in effect until at least May 15 under Executive Order 2020-59 signed today by Governor Whitmer. Residents are now also required to wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces, and employers must provide at least a cloth face covering to their employees. But in response to recent positive trends, some restrictions will be loosened slightly to allow a handful of work and recreation activities to resume. In particular:

  • Landscapers, lawn-service companies, and nurseries may return to work  – subject to social distancing
  • Retailers that do not sell necessary supplies may reopen for curbside pickup and delivery
  • Closed areas of retail stores such as garden centers and paint departments may reopen
  • Motorized boating and golf are permitted, consistent with sound social distancing
  • Travel between residences is permitted, although strongly discouraged

The Governor announced today that the state will closely monitor the impact of these changes on Michigan's overall infection rate and to ensure new hotspots do not develop and will make future decisions based on those data.
