Future Nature

28 August – 16 October

Our latest exhibition Future Nature, presented in partnership with the Australian Museum, is set to launch on 28 August.

Future Nature maps the places where art, science, and design collide, exploring the roots of scientific curiosity. Nine designers have created wondrous and strange works for the exhibition – from ‘active’ sculptures, ‘organic’ telescopes, ecologies of synthetic crickets, and escapee rabbits.

Featured in Future Nature are: Keith Armstrong, Tegan Brain & Jodi Newcombe, Justin Cawley, Eggpicnic, Alan Giddy, Natalie Jeremijenko, Pierre Proske, Dagmar Reinhardt, Tom Rivard, and Sue Anne Ware.

Inspired by the Australian Museum's collection, each of the designers will have their work presented as contemporary cabinets of curiosity.

Future Nature is the result of a two-year conversation about bio-mimicry and design – Issue 63 of Object Magazine was dedicated to this field of practice.

Bringing Back Style

We Are Nature

6-8pm Thursday, 6 September

9:30am-3:00pm Tuesday, 22 September

Bringing Back Style, presented as part of Sydney Design 2015 and supported by UNSW Art & Design, is the second in our Gold Club conversation series.

Chaired by The SNAP Assembly's Anne-Maree Sargeant, Bringing Back Style will focus on interior design and features a line-up of luminaries including Babette Hayes OAM (pictured), Jacquie Clayton, Liane Rossler, and Robyn Holt.

Coming up these school holidays, we’re putting on a special day of children’s workshops especially for kids who want to explore and get creative with Future Nature.

With workshops led by designers Eggpicnic and Dagmar Reinhardt, "We Are Nature" is for creative kids aged 8-12 who want to get their hands dirty making models and imagining future worlds.

Designers Den

Designers Den

National Science Week

6-8pm Thursday, 24 September

15-23 August

Join us for the return of the constructively cruel but highly entertaining Designers Den, supported by The University of Newcastle.

Three hand-picked emerging designers inspired by the natural world will be receiving feedback from a diverse judging panel of industry experts with the possibilities of mentorship, consultancy and investment up for grabs.

As we get excited for the opening of Future Nature, we're busy checking out everything that this year's National Science Week has to offer.

Top of our list is the Australian Museum's Science Festival Saturday. This annual event is an immersive festival with hands-on workshops, science stage shows, exhibition stalls, roving scientists, live animals and more.
