February 2017... Join Games now. Click here...

Dear TSGers, as most of you will know the TSG Team have spent the last week or so hob-nobbing with the great and the good of the golf industry at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. And this issue of the TSG newsletter has been dedicated to that trip - see below. However, in other news, we can confirm talks are underway for us to introduce a new TSG event - TSG North Vs South currently penciled in for August 2017. This event we hope will become a Bi-Annual tournament (Ryder Cup stylie) and we hope to bring you more information on this in the TSG March Newsletter. Til next time....Happy Golfing! The PGA Merchandise Show

The PGA Show Special - Setting The Scene...

Split over four days, the global golf event started at Orange County National Golf Club with the Demo Day. All the major brands were on display promoting their latest products and gadgets. However, on day two we move into the second largest conference centre in the world. Here we were met with 10 miles of aisles and over 750 exhibitors making the London Golf Show look like a corner shop! Here are our highlights from the show..... #enjoy

ProCaddie Electric Trolleys

What caught our eye about this product is that the designers have taken a fairly established product sector and completely re-thought how an electric trolley should look and operate....

The amazing look of the RX1, is unique and innovative in its design with the most notable change being in the battery. Instead of the usual chunky square battery, this has a linear 'tube' like design that fits in the structure of the trolley, thus reducing space and increasing stability.

We think this is a real great product and whilst early models will be in excess of £1000, we have no doubt once the economies of scale kick in this will be a very affordable addition to your golf gear!

"ProCaddie" the company based in Newcastle and are looking to shake up the market from early April.

Honma Clubs

Despite a 60+ year heritage in Japan, there is little known about Honma in the UK, mainly due to the reputation for being expensive at £300+ per iron and £1000+ for a Driver. However, is this price justified?

Honma now brings us their new “Be ZEAL” mid range clubs that while still a stretch for most golfers, they are much more affordable at approx £1000 for a set of six irons.

With the average Master Craftsman at Honma having over 40 years of club-making experience under their belt. And you can feel the love that has been put into each club. These hand made clubs are VERY different to anything else we've seen.

The TSG Verdict: We tested these irons and were seriously impressed. The spring in the sweet spots were as good as we've ever experienced. So impressed, we would seriously consider raiding the piggy bank and getting a set of these clubs!

BOB Bikes...

The Bob Bike is fully electrical multi-functional form of transport. Designed as a multi-purpose bike, the designers then hit upon the idea that it could also be used for golf, as the BOB Bike ballon tyres don’t cause damage to the fairways.

You can also connect the bike to a smart phone allowing you or the Golf manager to regulate the speed the BOB Bike to a max. of 22 Mph. At an average speed of approximately 9 mph, the battery has a capacity of 35 miles, easily beating most electric trolleys.

The warranty on the BOB Bike is 1 year and 2 year on the battery. The lithium battery option has a minimum life of 3 years (1.500 chargers). At around $2000 a bike, this could be the future of golf at your local club sometime soon!

The TaylorMade Stand

Without doubt, the most impressive stand at the show, these guys took everyone by surprise by announcing that Tiger had joined the ranks of Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Jason Day! Coupled with the fact that they had both the US Open Trophy and Rose's Olympic Golf Medal on display giving them a huge steal on the other brands. OK, so Tiger has since pulled out of the PGA Tour again but can't help feeling these guys have already got their money's worth from the great man.

Looking forward to seeing what TaylorMade do next...

The PGA Show Special... The Movie!

Didn't we have a lovely time the week when to Orlando...

OK, so it wasn't all work and no play, as you can see we had a great fun at Orange County National Golf Course at the PGA Show Demo Day! However, nothing could have prepared us for the three days inside the Orlando Convention Centre. And here's a quick video of  'our' show (move over Ridley Scott!).....PLAY VIDEO!

Judy Lilley - Leaderboard winner

TSG Player of the Month: Judy Lilley, Orpington, Kent, UK.

Royal Blackheath GC  - 45 Pts (sponsored by Trophies&Medals.com)

Having joined TSG soon after launch, the leaderboard, as well as the TSG Caption competition have continued to elude me. I have been working hard on my game and am known for hitting the ball straight, but I am a typical club golfer, in that I will only occasionally light up the scoreboard. On 14th January, I donned a new pair of Footjoys and on a frosty Southern Valley, managed to pull 40 points out of the bag. I knew this score would not stand a chance. You are a tough lot! However, the next day came as somewhat of a surprise....

Royal Blackheath has been going through extensive course restructure and this has proved more challenging, as well as exciting. On a day of incessant rain and in the company of another mad Englishwoman, I just hit all the right shots, in all the right places, chipped in and holed putts from all angles.

Having been pipped to the post twice before, I presumed the same would happen again. I received a couple of encouraging messages from previous winners. Come on Judy – surely you’ve done it this time?

FINALLY, I have joined the Hall of Fame and am a proud owner of the much coveted green towel!

Handicap change: Prior to game 19.5, now 17.1!

Ashford Manor Golf Club

Course Review of the Month: Ashford Manor GC, Surrey, UK.

Traditional parkland course...

Played here with TSGer veteran Paul Smith on the basis of potentially joining. First impressions were good, with a nice clubhouse and changing facilities, and a friendly face in the pro shop....The stand out holes are the 471 par 4, and the 234, Par 3 off the whites! So as you can guess, this course's defence is its length. We played it off the yellows, so not quite so intimidating, and I did manage to par the long par 3, though it was only playing a measly 189 yards.

It had been very cold overnight, so many of the tee boxes and greens were partially frozen over. However, from what unfrozen sections we could see, both looked very good, and the fairways were also in good condition for the time of year. They have also recently upgraded a lot of the bunkers, and the couple I went in were well maintained. The remaining ones are due to be upgraded this year. As I have been advised the course drains very well, it seemed friendly when I returned for a second look, and it is very close to where I will be moving, I have bitten the bullet and decided to take advantage of a reduced joining fee deal that was running over December.

I don't see my handicap plummeting, due to the length of the course, but I think the general condition will make it a pleasure to play on, and despite some road noise on a few holes, when the trees regain their leaves, it will be a nice course to walk around. It also has that old school traditional feel about it that I really like!
