HFI Responds to Post-Hurricane Flooding in North Carolina
Though Hurricane Matthew no longer pounds the US coastline, it’s after-effects continue to be catastrophic over 100 miles inland. Initial predictions reported Florida as being the primary target for Matthew's landfall, but North Carolina has received the worst of its fury. Torrential rains, rivers cresting at record heights, dams breaching, bridges giving way and rising water in multiple communities have led to numerous emergency declarations. As of this morning, more mandatory evacuations have been ordered.
Since Monday, a Hope Force International assessment team has been on the ground in the Fayetteville/Lumberton, NC area. Jack Minton, HFI President/CEO, met a former U.S. Congressman who introduced him to a city manager -- and an open invitation has been extended for our teams to come to the aid of the community.
Many neighborhoods across the region still remain underwater, but this morning our team discovered a few streets with homeowners looking for help. The team went to work “mucking out” homes and the list of those requesting their help grows by the hour. An alert has been issued to all of our trained HFI Reservists to respond.
This year has proven extraordinary for flooding in multiple states, over many months. Though the needs can be overwhelming, we continue to trust God in each situation to lead and guide our efforts -- realizing our job is to be willing and obedient when He says “Go!” The situation in North Carolina has grabbed our hearts.
Please pray for wisdom and direction for the leadership of Hope Force International as we prepare our teams, confirm job sites and work with local leaders.
Also, would you please consider giving a financial contribution toward our North Carolina deployment?
Thank you for partnering with us!
