Good News for 2015: how to visit the Wall by water
To mark the 25th anniversary of Germany's reunification next year, Kuhnle-Tours have created
a special Berlin itinerary, starting from their base at Zeuthen, in the southeast suburbs of the city. The route will head into the city centre, passing the Reichstag dome (pictured left), will show the best way to get to Checkpoint Charlie, how to experience the escape tunnels under the city, and how to visit now-trendy Mauerpark, a former death strip where a long section of the Wall still stands. A unique way of experiencing Berlin’s history from a watery perspective. Kuhnle-Tours is also about to introduce a brand new website for 2015, but meanwhile for Wall tours you can contact them on info@kunhle-tours.de.

Good news for 2015: Weimar and the two Cranachs
It’s the son, not the father, taking centre stage next year. Lucas Cranach the Younger’s 500th anniversary will be celebrated in 2015, and Weimar is putting a spotlight on the art of the Reformation period. The town has good reason to remember the artist whose work is often overshadowed by his father: his stunning ‘Cranach Altar’ (1555) is in the Stadtkirche
St Peter and Paul (left). While it’s long been assumed that he added finishing touches after his father’s death, new research proves that the younger Cranach is almost completely responsible for the altar that depicts Cranach the Elder with Martin Luther. It has been restored to its former glory. And there’s more, with special exhibitions focussing on great works of father and son in the Schiller Museum (3 April-14 June 2015) and in the Stadtschloss city palace (until 11 January 2015). Be sure to see the splendid Renaissance façade of the Cranach family’s house on the market square.

Good news for 2015: Happy 300th Birthday Karlsruhe
One of the world’s first planned cities, Karlsruhe was founded in 1715 – and is throwing a 300th birthday party
in 2015! This Baroque gem is nicknamed the ‘Fan City’ for the elegant streets that spread out from the central palace. Celebrations in 2015 include two national art exhibitions. One is devoted to Margrave Karl Wilhelm, after whom Karlsruhe is named, at Baden State Museum (9 May - 18 October 2015). The other is to Margravine Karoline Luise of Baden, an enlightened princess and art collector, at the State Art Gallery (30 May - 6 September 2015). Meanwhile the Summer Festival, with concerts and more, runs all the way from 17 June to 27 September.

Good news for 2015: Leipzig celebrates its millennium
Next year it will be 1,000 years since the founding of
Leipzig, and the city is intent on marking the occasion. The highlight will be the Festival Week (31 May-7 June) with the ‘Lipsia’s Lions’ Street Theatre Festival based on a story of escaped lions where five moving figures will gather up people as they slowly march towards the city centre. That is followed by the Leipzig Bachfest 'So glorious you stand, dear city!' (12-21 June) which undertakes a musical journey through the last millennium. And then (10-11 July) the Gewandhaus Orchestra will stage an open air concert of classical favourites in the Leipzig Rosental park. Meanwhile the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts will also be hosting a Paul Klee
retrospective entitled "In a class of his own - priceless" (1 March-25 May).

Good news for 2015: Regensburg’s menu of events
The city of Regensburg is one of the ‘most beautiful cities in the world’, according to star architect Sir Norman Foster, who knows a thing or two. But it is also a centre of culture, too, with next year’s events kicking off with the Dult, the traditional fair which takes place over two weeks in the middle of May, and again from the end of August. Then, from 22-25 June, the old town hosts
‘Days of Old Music’, with classical performances on original instruments, which is in turn followed by a Jazz weekend (9-12 July), so that no music fans are left out. There are two key festivals: Regensburger Bürgerfest (19-21 June) is where locals and visitors alike come together to celebrate the arrival of summer. And then the Thurn & Taxis Palace Festival (17-26 July) picks up the mantle with concerts and theatrical performances in the spectacular palace courtyard (pictured left).
