Stavely Minerals Exploration Initiative Geoscience

The Stavely Initiative has delivered another major geoscience milestone, which further enhances the understanding of the minerals potential of the Stavely Arc in western Victoria.

Historical Mineral Exploration Data Compilation

A major compilation of historical geoscience data relating to the Stavely Arc in western Victoria is now available.

Open-file historical mineral exploration data in the Stavely Arc has been compiled by the Geological Survey of Victoria into a series of discoverable datasets, which will help improve mineral exploration targeting and efficiency in the region.

Interrogation of the datasets reveal that hundreds of kilometres of strike length of prospective Cambrian-aged rock units remain untested by mineral exploration.

READ THE REPORT

This compilation has delivered:

  • 30,665 surface (stream, soil and rock chip) geochemical samples
  • 9,951 drill holes for 291,374 metres of mineral exploration drilling

Highlights include:

  • a 25% increase in mineral occurrence records
  • a 91% increase in surface geochemistry sample records
  • a 22% increase in the number of drill hole collar records (and a 27% increase in the actual drilling metres)
  • over 153,200 drilling related lithology records
  • assay records for over 47,000 drilling samples
  • a centralised thin section petrographic description catalogue
  • a ground geophysical survey spatial index
  • improved metadata for airborne geophysical surveys index
