2013 - 2014 Budget Update

U of L President Mike Mahon has posted an update on the 2013-2014 budget for the University of Lethbridge community.

The budget website houses a sign-in page for employees to view the most recent budget documents and to learn more about the process by which the U of L is developing the 2013 - 2014 budget, here.

Mahon Goes to the "Big House" January 18, 10 a.m.

University of Lethbridge President Mike Mahon  has agreed to be taken in for 'questioning' on January 18 at 10 a.m  about taking his zeal for campus fitness to extremes.

You can decide for yourself if  the charges levelled against the   veteran administrator and researcher are true -- and can help raise funds to bail Mike out of "Jail."  Read more here.

U of L Awarded Silver and Bronze for Communications Materials

The University of Lethbridge has earned three awards at the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)  District VIII Communication Awards competition:
    
SILVER -- U of L Viewbook series (Viewbooks and Prospective Student Publications)

BRONZE -- Play Day (Projects & Programs / Special Events)

BRONZE -- Alberta's Destination University - 2013 U of L Student Recruitment Materials (Marketing, Recruiting, Student Involvement, Community or Government Relations Projects).

CASE is an international organization of colleges and univerisities in the western Canadian provinces and the northwestern United States.

"Tomorrow Project" Challenge: U of L and Lethbridge College in "Mortal Combat" for Participants

The Tomorrow Project needs our help and has put forward a challenge to the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College communities to sign up participants for a long-term study on cancer reduction.

The Tomorrow Project is the largest health research study ever undertaken in our province. Its goal is to find out more about the causes of cancer and other health conditions.

Knowing more about what causes diseases will help researchers develop better strategies to improve our health in the future. Sign up here.

Play Day Coming Soon -- Volunteer Request

Last year, more than 2,500 people experienced the flat-out fun of unstructured play at Play Day 2012, an event that celebrates the importance of play for all ages.

This year, Play Day takes place on February 18 in the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year's circus-themed event invites families to clown around.

Admission is free. Parking is free.

Volunteers are needed throughout the day for a variety of tasks including face painting, craft stations and fort building. Please contact Kali McKay at kali.mcKay@uleth.ca for more information or to volunteer.

The Centre for the Advancement of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CAETL) invites all faculty members to apply for financial support of up to $5000 for projects to enhance teaching effectiveness.

Teacher Job Fair Matches Employers, Employees , January 23

Since 2003, the Faculty of Education has hosted an event  which has brought numerous school boards or educational organizations to its annual Teacher Job Fair.

This year, the Teacher Job Fair takes place on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the University Hall Atrium.

The Teacher Job Fair allows students opportunity to establish one-on-one contact with representatives from prospective school boards from as far away as the United Kingdom. Learn more here.

Each year, the University of Lethbridge acknowledges its best teachers, researchers and external volunteers through the Distinguished Teaching Award, the Ingrid Speaker Medal for Distinguished Research, Scholarship, or Performance and the University Volunteer Award. These three award programs are now accepting nominations.

Campus Master Plan Open House, January 28

The  University Campus Master Plan (UCMP) Open House takes place Monday, Jan. 28.

The informal event begins with a social reception from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the newly-renovated stairwell area of the PE Building followed by a presentation during the Architecture and Design course in PE264 at 6 p.m.

The reception will feature image boards, banners and slideshow media. A short minute presentation will take place, with the consultant teams in attendance for casual conversation.

The main presentation in PE264, will be jointly presented by Associate Director of Campus Planning and Architecture Spencer Court, and representatives from project consultants Moriyama + Teshima Architects (Toronto) and Gibbs Gage Architects (Calgary).

A short question period will follow.

Student Speaker Challenge 2013

The Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG), the U of L Students' Union, and the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) have once again teamed up to bring a forum for discussion to the U of L.

Students are invited to apply to participate in The Big Idea: The Student Speaker Challenge 2013.
