Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the June 2018 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate.

Below find a few key points provided by our Chief Economist, Michael Uhrich:

  • U.S. domestic beer shipment volumes declined by 3.8% during June 2018, which had one fewer selling day compared to June 2017.
  • On a selling-day adjusted basis, domestic beer volume increased by 0.8% in June – well above the year-to-date trend of negative 3.7%.
  • This improvement in domestic shipment trends was largely due to a distributor inventory correction.  Inventories had been running below normal levels at the end of May due to unexpectedly favorable weather, which caused many distributors to order more beer for delivery in June than they would have otherwise.

If you have any questions, please contact Michael at either 202-737-2337 or muhrich@beerinstitute.org.
