Bike tours help you get up-close-and-personal with OKC

Have you ever wondered what that crazy sculpture is called? Have you ever wanted to dazzle your friends with your intimate knowledge of our city's rich history? Check out the Downtown OKC Bike Tours. It's fun and it's free.

Each tour is led by an expert guide who will reveal the people, places and stories that have made Oklahoma City rich with culture. As opposed to simply driving through downtown, bike tours give you a more in-depth look at neighborhoods and buildings. The casual atmosphere of the tours allows for more questions and interaction with the experts guiding the tours.

Tuesday, Oct. 2 - History tour, Bob Blackburn, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Historical Society
Tuesday, Oct. 9 - Public art tour, Peter Dolese, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Oklahoma City
Tuesday, Oct. 16 - Architecture, Anthony McDermid, Founding Principal at TAP Architecture

The tours begin at 6 p.m. Each one lasts approximately one hour and will cover about 2.5 to 3 miles. The tours are free, but space is limited, so sign up today.

Mustang Brewing Co. hosts Beer Dinner Road Trip 2012

Mustang Brewing Company is celebrating the re-release of their fall seasonal beer, Harvest Lager, with a unique series of beer pairing events throughout the Oklahoma City metro area.

Beer dinners are typically a four- to five- course meal hosted by both the Executive Chef of the restaurant and the Brewmaster from the brewery. Each course is paired with a specific beer that compliments the ingredients of the dish. The first beer dinner in the tour is at Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse, a long-time staple in Bricktown known for the highest quality food, this Sunday, Sept. 16 at 6 p.m.

“We have done beer dinners in the past, and they always go over well,” commented Eric Pennell, Director of Marketing and Promotions at Mustang. “It’s a win for everyone involved. The restaurants get a chance to get creative with a one-off menu, we get a chance to introduce our line of beers to new people in a fun environment, and the attendees get to sit back and enjoy the fruits of our collaboration with amazing food at an exclusive event.”

Seating will be very limited for each event and will sell out quickly. Tickets are $55 per person. To make your reservation, call 405.272.0777. For more information, visit MustangBrewing.com.

Family Builders hosts workshops for downtown businesses

Family Builders, formerly known as Parents Assistance Center, is starting several new parenting courses to help build better family relationships in Oklahoma City.  All parents can use some guidance at some point with parenting and Family Builders is here to meet those needs in OKC.

They recently launched several new community education programs to reach pregnant teens, working parents and children in elementary schools. One new program is a brown bag lunch series on parenting hosted at Oklahoma City workplaces. Topics include alternative child discipline and how to establish regular family routines that promote healthy relationships. These workshops are tailored for large companies or civic organizations. Family Builders would love to present a workshop at your downtown business. For more information, visit parentsassistancecenter.org.
