State-of-the-art Brian Brown Recording Studio launched
On Friday March 27, the Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley MP visited our Southbank campus to officially launch the upgraded Brian Brown Recording Studio - named in honour of Brian Brown OAM (1933-2013) who established the jazz and improvisation course at the VCA in 1980. The upgrades, funded by the State Government through Creative Victoria, will allow for a bigger live recording space, high-end technology and a range of new teaching, research and community activities.

The festival features three days of performances and masterclasses featuring international and Australian guest artists, including Liam Day from the Malaysian Philharmonic, and MCM staff and students.

Jazz & Improv at Bennetts Lane

Dystopia
May 6 – 9
Dystopia is a new full-length dance work by choreographer Lina Limosani (BDance 1999), presented by undergraduate dance and production students at Gasworks. “An underclass remains bound to the planet’s surface where their labour is exploited by the privileged” - this work explores the dystopia of today, ideas of power dichotomy, the stripping of humanity, and the grinding mechanical cycle.

FR!SK at True North Arts Festival
In 2014, the VCA Theatre Company created a program of new works for the Melbourne Fringe Festival, as part of FR!SK. This year, four of the shows are being remounted for True North Arts Festival, running from April 17-19 at Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre: I Still Call Australia Homo, Notes From Zombieland, Godlike Status, and The Adventures of Ophelia Sol.

Prof Anne Boyd awarded Bernard Heinze award
On March 20 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Professor Barry Conyngham (Dean of the Faculty of VCA and MCM) presented the 2015 Sir Bernard Heinze Memorial Award to the University of Sydney’s Professor Anne Boyd AM. As one of Australia’s most distinguished composers and music educators, the award recognises Professor Boyd’s outstanding contribution to music in Australia.

Deborah Cheetham inducted on to Victorian Women's Honour Roll
On March 11, our Associate Dean (Indigenous) Deborah Cheetham AO was inducted onto the Victorian Women’s Honour Roll, alongside 22 other women. The annual induction, first established in 2001, recognises the contributions of remarkable women who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in their field of expertise, interest or endeavour.
