Rip City! A Season with the Blazers

Shawn Dailey PT, DPT
Clinic Director

I have always been a Blazer fan so working with the team this year was a wonderful learning experience from which I have gained a greater appreciation for what occurs both on and off the court for the entire organization.  This year, the Blazers brought in Dr. Chris Stackpole PT, DPT, ATC as their Director of Player Health & Performance.  Chris is both a Physical Therapist as well as an Athletic Trainer/Strength Coach.  From my position as the Community Physical Therapist, I worked toward helping prevent injuries, treated injured players who couldn’t travel, and gave my opinions on injuries and treatment.  I worked with the rest of the health and performance team and helped with the collaborative look at player rehab and overall health.  It was an amazing season for the Blazers and the result of a lot of hard work by every member of their organization from players to coaches, trainers, office staff, etc…  The whole organization truly worked together as a team and it was easy for me to fit into their collaborative unit because it was similar to our team in Lake Oswego.  It is comforting to me to know that we truly offer comprehensive and professional health care at our facility that is similar to the care that is provided to some of the world’s greatest athletes, including your Trailblazers.

My 2014 Highlights:

  • Getting to know the personalities of some of the players behind the scenes (truly a GREAT group of guys)

  • Learning from other professionals including Dr. Stackpole, Geoffrey Clark ATC, the strength staff, coach Stott’s, and their massage therapists. Geoffrey has worked with the team for over eight years and is truly one of the best!

  • Going in the locker room at half time, being on the floor during a game, in the training room prior to games and seeing how each individual player prepares themselves mentally and physically.

  • Working at the Blazer Training Center and the amazing crowds at the Moda Center.

To the Blazers organization and team – thank you for a wonderful experience.

We are also pleased to announce that our clinic will be further expanding our relationship with the Blazers through Michelle Tegenkamp, MS, RD, LD, who will officially be joining them as the team nutritionist for the 2014-2015 season!  Congratulations Michelle and best wishes for a successful year.

TAI Lake Oswego is excited to now offer acupuncture at our clinic, to complement our current therapy and wellness services.  Acupuncture is a type of natural medicine of the Chinese Medicine Family that has been used for thousands of years, although only recently has it become popular in the United States.  Acupuncture uses tiny needles in specific points of the body to address a wide variety of diseases, conditions, and pains.  It is typically described as working by releasing endorphins, which assist in natural pain-relief and boost immune function.  Acupuncture also enables healing by promoting homeostasis within the body, improving the flow of energy and materials through tissues.  Acupuncture has been known to treat a wide variety of complaints including, but not limited to, allergies, back pain, depression, fatigue, headaches, muscle/joint pain, nausea, sciatica, and TMJ pain.

If you want to learn more, feel free to visit the clinic website of our acupuncturist, Anita Tadavardity, founder and owner of: METIS ACUPUNCTURE CLINICS

Melisa Abesa PT, DPT

Melisa Abesa PT, DPT
Marketing Coordinator

Hello to the Therapeutic Associates Lake Oswego family!  I am beyond excited to join this team and become a part of the L.O. community.  I will be working in the clinic as a Physical Therapist and also managing a majority of the marketing projects, including these lovely newsletters.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Southern California with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and have always felt most at home in the world of sports and orthopedics.  I completed my undergraduate at Eastern Oregon University, majoring in Exercise Science while competing on the track and field team as a sprinter.   From volleyball in grade school to my college days on the track, I have always been involved in athletics.  I love to MOVE, and continue to enjoy recreational sports (especially volleyball and football), running, hiking, and backpacking.  Becoming a physical therapist has only increased my love of movement.  I have worked with a variety of individuals across a large span of ability levels, from recreational runners to Special Olympics participants to elite athletes, and everything in between.  I am excited to join a team that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, and allows people to stay in motion, regain their abilities, and pursue their dreams.

But enough about me.  Again, I am very happy to be joining this community, and look forward to our future together.  We are very open to feedback, and encourage you to become an active part of our clinic.  Happy with the services and products we offer?  Have questions or comments?   Want to learn more about what we do and how we treat, or have other health and fitness questions?  Don’t hesitate to ask!  We are happy to address the needs of our clientele in whatever way possible, from products to newsletter content.  Feel free to email me at mabesa@taiweb.com and continue to follow us on facebook and twitter.  Wishing everyone a safe and fun-filled summer!
