Stoptober has now kicked off and an amazing 250,000 people have signed up nationally so far. The campaign is now in its third year and will hopefully see people continuing to sign up throughout the whole of October to access the PHE free resources.
We have been busy working with partners to increase awareness of Stoptober 2014 and the support available to maximise sign ups throughout the North West, including teaming up with the North West Trade Union Congress, Chambers of Commerce, Greater Manchester Fire Service, Cumbria Fire Service and Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers football clubs.
There has been great media coverage across the North West (see below) and lots of new resources released. You can find success stories, quitting tips and information to share here. Support the campaign on social media by subscribing to the Stoptober channel on YouTube and sharing the videos, following Stoptober on Twitter
and retweeting, 'liking' Stoptober on Facebook and by sharing the posts and promoting the STOPblog wherever you can.

The annual Integrated Household Survey revealed that adult smoking fell from 21.6% in 2012 to 20.1% in 2013. Nationally the figure fell from 19.5% in 2012 to 18.4%. Read our statement here.

Hi and welcome to your October eNews.
Stoptober 2014 is here! Thank you to all our partners who have been spreading the message and encouraging smokers to take part. It's great to see over a quarter of a million people signed up so far and I hope this number will rise even further over the next few weeks.
This month we are also rolling out a series of youth events during school half term week across the North West. The events are now at full capacity and will give young people an opportunity to find out more about our anti-tobacco industry youth programme, Smoke & Mirrors, explore tobacco industry tactics such as branding and marketing and hear examples of work we’re involved with, including standardised packaging and smoking in the entertainment media. I look forward to updating you on how they went in the next edition.
Lastly I am delighted to say that TFF has been shortlisted for the CIPR PRide Awards 2014 and the UK Social Media Communications Awards 2014 for our smoking in cars film. We will let you know how we get on.
Ian White, Project Manager: Communications and Marketing
