What's Brewing at the Indi

"Cheers!" to our Indi brewers, Jack and Brody, for cleaning up at the recent Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) held in Melbourne last month.   Indi Export Lager, Indi Hoppy Kolsch and Indi American Pale Ale were all awarded silver medals, and the Indi Street Beer and their seasonal drop, Ethereal Saison, took out bronze medals.  The AIBA is the biggest annual competition of its kind and is open to brewers & breweries of all sizes...needless to say, the boys were mighty chuffed.

There are some tasty food specials running this season, as well as some great events including the popular Beer Dinner & tribute nights, so scroll down and take a look at what's brewing at the Indi this winter.

The Boys Behind The Beer.

Since joining forces six months ago, these guys have certainly made a name for themselves within the craft beer industry. Their passion for the amber ale is evident, and they're as keen as mustard to enjoy their brews with you guys...and the masses.

Jack Purser | Head Brewer
Jack got into brewing at a very young age, in fact he applied for his first brewing job (unsuccessfully) before he was even 18, whilst running food at a local brewery. By the time he turned 18 he dropped his sound engineering studies to clean kegs and mop up at Mash Brewing. Six years later and with a bevy of experience, he has brewed countless different beers for 5 different companies  around Western Australia.  Jack just arrived home after traveling around the USA visiting some of the best breweries the world has to offer and is ready to make an impact on the W.A brewing scene as Head Brewer at the Indi.

Brody Watts | Brewer & Brand Ambassador
The final piece of the Indi Brewing puzzle was to hire a trusty sidekick to help with the grunt work and number crunching. Enter, Brody Watts – Brewer/Brand ambassador. Brody cut his teeth learning the trade at Homestead Brewery and soon realised his degree in environmental biology was nicely transferable.

The coming months and years are an exciting time for The Indi brew crew, as they look to implement their youthful passion into this booming industry that is craft beer.

New Winter Beer Now Pouring.

The "De-Husker Du?" was released on the 1st June. It's an Australian Black Ale that comes in at 7% ABV making it one solid drop that's sure to warm you up on these cold winter days.

“De Husker Du?” is Danish for “do you remember?”.  De-husked malt is a prominent ingredient in this beer (think chocolate, coffee and fruity hops) and they plan to brew this drop annually, hence the name.  They also intend to get creative with this brew, by aging batches in old red wine barrels. Watch this space...this black ale is going places.

Guest Brewery: Black Brewing Co.

Black Brewing Co. (Margaret River) has hit the taps as our guest brewery this season.

PALE ALE  |  ABV - 4.8%   |  IBU - 44

"A bloody nice well balanced English style pale ale. Grapefruit citrus, passion fruit and blackcurrant aromas with a subtle earth flavour. Five different rich ale malts form the backbone of this Pale Ale. which is balanced with English and Australian hops. Hopped up to 4 times including a large dry hopping from our brewers.  The balance between malt and hops leaves a crisp finish". The Black Brewing Team
