Why technology?
Many of us worry that online interventions may replace face-to-face therapy for young people, removing the important interpersonal relationship that makes therapeutic practice effective. Yet we know that the Internet has been identified as a key source of advice and support for young people, with 91% of 12-17 year olds indicating that the Internet is a highly important part of their life[1]
. So perhaps the question should not be “Why technology?” but rather, “How can technology be leveraged to connect these young people to the support that they need?”.
ReachOutPro.com.au provides information, reviews and advice for healthcare professionals on a range of technologies and online resources that can be used to enhance the effectiveness of mental health care and one-on-one case management with young people.

How will using technology help your practice with young people?
To help develop an understanding of the way young people are engaging online, and to highlight the evidence base for using technology, ReachOut Pro has developed an educational resource to provide answers to these questions.
The Technology and Young People section of the Connecting Our Worlds professional development resource is available as a 10 minute tutorial that you can complete in your own time.

ReachOut.com invites young people to become mental health advocates
We understand that many young people want to do something positive to support their community, which can lead to better outcomes for not only themselves, but for society at large. To help them connect to their communities, ReachOutcom is recruiting a group of young people for the Reach Out to an MP (ROMP) and the Speakers Bureau programs.
Young people who participate will be provided with advocacy and media training, as well as the opportunity to connect with a community of young people who work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young Australians.

What Works 4 U? Young people share their treatment experiences
One of the biggest barriers to help seeking is a lack of understanding of the therapeutic support that is available, and a fear of what mental health treatments involve.
A new website from Orygen Youth Health helps youth support workers and young people to learn more about the experience of receiving mental health therapies, by allowing young people to share their experiences.
We interviewed Anna Ross from Orygen Youth Health about the rationale behind the WhatWorks4U.org website.
