Modo's red electric vehicle.

modolectric

Modo members: you’re now the owners of the only fully electric vehicle for carsharing in Western Canada. We took delivery of a Nissan LEAF last month and on November 1st the vehicle was available for booking. After some media attention the vehicle has been featured on blogs and will be included in Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association’s 2012 calendar.

We’re excited our members have the opportunity to go fully electric for short city trips. A full charge will last about 140 km; you shouldn’t need to re-charge during a booking. Because the vehicle is fully electric, it’s important for members to charge the vehicle between each trip.

Before you go on your first trip with this vehicle, please review our pictorial ‘how-to’ guide on getting started. Facebook Like Button

modo invoices

This month we rolled out a new invoicing process. In the past, we had four different delivery methods and now we have two: email notification to log in to our secure website, or hard copy by mail.

Logging in to our booking site, Engage, is secure because member account information is encrypted. Sending invoices through email (as text or as an attached PDF) was never a secure option.

If it’s been a while since you last logged in, try using the reset password function. Or just call our Member Care Co-ordinators at 604.685.1393 and we’d be happy to help you out. If you’d prefer not to log in to our site at all, give us a call and we’ll make sure you receive your invoice as a hard copy by mail.

Modo invoices are securely stored online.

winter driving: stay safe

Each year during snow season Modo encourages members to think carefully about driving in snowy conditions: do you really need to make that trip? If not, cancel it. Our cancellation policy is that you only get charged 50% of the original hourly charge if you cancel ahead of time. With 12 hours’ notice, your cancellation charge drops to zero.

Work Safe BC’s website has tips for safe winter driving, including: “Don’t know? Don’t go.” We couldn’t agree more. However, if you do need to drive, check weather conditions prior to your trip. Book extra time in case you need to clear a snow bank around a Modo vehicle or scrape windshields. Year-round, Modo stocks ice scrapers in the driver’s side door pocket and snow tires are available on about 10% of our fleet.

Modo ice scrapers are in the driver's side door pocket.

modo mojo: the gift of carsharing

We know gift-giving is likely on your mind and Modo would love to help out with this suggestion: the gift of carsharing. Modo Mojo is available all year round and can be purchased in any amount. The Mojo can be applied as carsharing credit for existing Modo members or toward shares or fees for new members.

If you’re interested in purchasing Modo Mojo for someone who’s not yet a member, make sure they’re eligible to join. Contact us for details on how to purchase: info@modo.coop or 604.685.1393. Tweet Button

How about the gift of carsharing this year?

'own your own' this holiday

You live local; you work local; you play local: why not buy local? In BC 98% of businesses are small and owned by locals. This holiday, when BC residents spend an average $1400 on gifts and entertainment, try to avoid the big box trap and shift some of your spending towards local businesses. Shifting just 10% of your spending towards local businesses this holiday season can build the Metro Vancouver's economy by $331 million dollars.

LOCO promotes local businesses because they support the principles of sustainability. Local businesses are better for the planet because local food and products don't get shipped around the globe; they are better for our communities because they keep our cities unique by making sure we keep a mix of diverse businesses instead of the same big chains. And local businesses are better for the economy because these businesses buy products and services from other local businesses, circulating money and creating genuine wealth. Buy local this holiday.

Go LOCO this holiday.
