Holiday TimeChildren's Hearing and Speech Centre's last day of class for this year is on Friday December 16, 2011 and we'll be open and ready for learning and listening on Tuesday January 3, 2012 Talking Tip
This month's tip comes from our Pedatric Audiologist, Christine Cheung. Water is beneficial to all life; however it is extremely dangerous to hearing aids. Moisture can cause damage to the microphone and the receiver of the hearing aid, clog the sound opening or earmold tubing, and cause corrosion in the hearing aid. Moisture can badly affect sound quality and cause the hearing aid to work intermittently or not at all. It is crucial that moisture from the hearing aid be removed before it causes permanent damage. The best way to remove moisture is to store the hearing aid in the Dri-Aid Kit every night. Always remove the battery before placing the hearing aid inside. The metal case of the kit contains chemical that absorbs moisture from the hearing aid. When the chemical turns pink, it is saturated with water and you must put the metal case in an oven at about 350 F until the colour of the chemical turns blue. Remember to wait until the metal case cools before you put it back to the plastic pouch of the kit. If you have a different Dri-Aid, you must read the instruction sheet from the manufacturer. Our Holiday Tree is GrowingThe ornaments are flowing in and being posted up on CHSC's Holiday Tree. The tree celebrates more than the coming season's festivities. It is a reminder and promise to our deaf and hard of hearing children that we want to provide them the ultimate in services. If you have not added an ornament to our holiday tree yet, and would like to join the many families, staff, and board members who have, you can make a donation online at www.childrenhearing.ca Long Time Supporters! The school was a recent recipient of a $40,000 contribution from The 1988 Foundation. We are pleasd to say that this Foundation has been supporting the school since 1994 with their financial gifts. Their generousity and continued support makes all the difference in how many programs we can offer and how often. They believe in the fantastic work being done here and we are so grateful for their continued support. Thank you to everyone at The 1988 Foundation. |
