Beware of Increased Phishing Emails Impersonating

Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC) Employees

We are writing to share there have been an increase of phishing emails sent out by individuals impersonating CPC employees. As soon as we became aware of the increased suspicious activity we took immediate action to further secure our systems. We take your privacy and security seriously and will continue to update you with any significant developments. 

How to Recognize a Phishing Email and Protect Yourself: 

What is phishing? 
Phishing occurs when attackers impersonate a trusted source to deceive individuals into clicking harmful links, downloading malicious attachments, or revealing sensitive information. 

Common Signs of Phishing and Spam Emails:   

• Unfamiliar Email Addresses: Check to see the email addresses and sender name match 

• Urgent or Threatening Language: Phishing emails often try to create panic (e.g., “Act now or your account will be suspended”) and may contain spelling or grammatical errors. 

• Requests to Update or Verify Sensitive Information: This could be passwords, Social Security Number or any other financial information. 

• Suspicious Links or Attachments: Links that don’t match the domain or lead to unexpected destinations. Do not open any suspicious attachments or click on any links. 

• If you have already interacted with any suspicious emails, notify your IT team immediately and wait for their guidance. Change your passwords and review your account for any unauthorized activity. 

• Delete the email from your inbox and trash folder 

We encourage you all to stay vigilant and exercise caution with emails from unfamiliar sources.
