Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the July 2017 State-by-State Shipments to Wholesalers Report. Please note changes to historical volumes as some state totals may have changed with newly released state-level data.

Below are some key points from the report:

  • The volume of beer shipments to wholesalers decreased by 3.1% in July 2017, compared to July 2016, which had the same number of selling days.
  • Beer shipments are now down 1.0% year-to-date and down 0.7% over the last 12 months.
  • Strong population growth in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Mountain Division (which includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming) seems to be having a positive impact on beer shipment performance. The Mountain Division’s adult population is currently growing at 1.7% (nearly twice the national average), and it is the only Census division in which beer shipment volume has grown thus far in 2017.
