Local Spotlight

Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?” - Isaiah 58:6-7

This month’s local spotlight is on the homeless in our community. There are thousands of homeless men, women and children in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Many suffer from mental illness and substance abuse and have been chronically homeless for extended periods of time. We believe that God is able to restore the broken and that He cares for our homeless neighbors and desires to provide for them; their greatest spiritual need to be reconciled to their Creator and tangible needs they face while on the streets.

For more info on how to come alongside the homeless in our communities, please visit the following:

For any questions contact: missions@realitysb.com.

Please join us for Community Prayer this month on Tuesday, October 21st at 7am at the Santa Barbara and Carpinteria campuses as we pray for the homeless in our communities.

Thailand Team Donations

The Thailand Team is collecting donations for their upcoming trip to Northern Thailand and Myanmar (November 2nd - 17th). As a huge praise, the Lord has opened doors for ministry in an IDP Camp ("Internationally Displaced People") for the Shan in Myanmar. The team recently learned that Shan and Thai officials have granted the team access to the camp and the schoolmaster has extended the team an invitation to spend several days living and ministering to the children and community. Displaced children within Myanmar live in very difficult conditions, and are often without parents. Many families seek refuge at the camp and military base because of harsh and unjust conditions under the Myanmar government.

Please pray for the glory of the Lord to be revealed through the Thailand Team's love and witness to the Gospel in this camp. Donations can be dropped off at any campus this Sunday, October 19th and next Sunday, October 26th or brought to the church office during the week between Tuesday and Friday.

Items include:

  • Children's multi-vitamins
  • First-Aid supplies including anti-biotic ointment, band-aids, and Tylenol
  • Reading glasses in various magnifications
  • New, small stuffed animals for little boys and girls
  • New, small toys such as balls or games
  • Bags of hard candy or lolipops (nothing that would melt)
  • New or in very good condition, classroom posters for elementary school ages (english vocabulary such as colors)
  • Art supplies

Remember to join the team on Thursday, October 30th at 7pm for a Prayer Send-Off at the Carpinteria Campus. For questions about donations contact: missions@realitysb.com and follow the team's blog.

Meet Pastor 'H' from Amman, Jordan

We are privileged to have the opportunity to hear from Jordanian Pastor (Pastor "H") at the Carpinteria Campus on Sunday, October 26th from 3-5pm as he shares his work among Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

This will be a great opportunity for interested believers to understand the refugee crisis more deeply so that more prayers and finances are generated. Also, you will learn about short and long term involvement as well as the wider work of reaching unengaged Muslims with the gospel. You will also hear about opportunities in introducing people to the field of pastoral care among missionaries and other types of resourcing needed so that together we might see movements towards Jesus where presently there are none. There will be a time of Q & A on these and any other themes related to missions.

For more info and/or questions please contact: missions@realitysb.com.

Young Adult Worship Night

Please join us TONIGHT on Friday, October 17th at 7pm for a Young Adult Worship and Prayer Night at the Ventura campus. This night is for anyone who has a heart for young adults in their 20s and 30s or is a young adult themselves.

Reality is unifying with six other churches in the area to gather around Christ in prayer, preaching and worship. Christ is bigger than one church, which is why it is exciting to unify with other churches in Ventura to worship Christ together. On Friday night we will be worshiping together and seeking God's heart for young adults in Ventura County.

Serve in Kids Ministry | Ventura Campus

Hey Ventura campus! Our heart is to love on each kid and point them to Jesus. It is an amazing blessing to be able to serve the Lord in this way, and God is so faithful to equip us for this work no matter what our previous experience was with kids. However, several classes are in jeopardy of being closed on Sundays because they lack a consistent team, and we do not want that to happen. Let's keep them open!

In order to prevent classes from closing, we are asking you to prayerfully consider being part of our team of shepherds who extend God's love to the kids and families of RVTA on Sundays. In general, team members serve every other week at one gathering alongside one or more fellow teammates. We teach using a curriculum that is well-written and simple to follow (you will receive training and support). And we have so much fun!

Please visit our website for more details or email terry@realityventura.com.

Serve at the Ventura Campus

If you currently attend the Ventura campus and have a desire to serve, there are many opportunities throughout the week and at our Sunday gatherings. The Ventura Campus relies on the faithful commitment of our volunteers, as they serve the congregation in numerous ways by facilitating our gatherings and ministries. Rather than fostering a consumer mentality within the church in which we passively benefit from the efforts of a few, we are all called to serve one another. Our model is Jesus, who told His apostles, “I am among you as the one who serves” (Luke 22:27).

If you'd like to serve at our Sunday gatherings or during the week, please fill out our Volunteer Form

Radical Recovery | Ventura Campus

Radical Recovery is a new group dealing with addictions and radical change as we learn to walk with Jesus through life's battlefield. If you're looking for change and serious about recovery, come join us and be radical for Jesus every Tuesday night from 7-8pm at the Ventura campus. Radical Recovery is led by Tino and Krissy Rico in the J-high room across the parking lot from our main building.

"For we too were once foolish, disobedient, deceived enslaved by various passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, detesting one another." Titus 3:3
