2011 HTM Program Changes

Inline

There will be significant changes to the HTM program for students entering in Fall 2011. An email was sent to all current students to explain the changes as there will be some impact on current students due to changes in course content, pre-requisites, and credit offerings. Although current students do not need to change to the new set of requirements it may be a good opportunity to have a more fixed emphasis with advanced content. Students should discuss the possibility with an academic advisor in the CCPS Advising Center. Students who choose not to change their catalog year may still elect to take some of the new course offerings. Any student with questions about the changes should be referred to the CCPS Advising Center or the HTM department for further information and review of their record. MORE INFORMATION

CCPS Online Override Request Process

Inline

With the start of registration comes student questions regarding pre-requisite checking. Pre-requisite courses provide the background necessary for successful performance in a course. The university uses an automated check of students’ records - including transfer work and test scores - at the time of registration to determine whether students have successfully completed the pre-requisites for certain courses. The online catalog lists pre-requisites in the course descriptions. Prerequisite checking applies to all students regardless of their level or college. Pre-Requisites are enforced by Banner at the time of registration. Students will be permitted to register if they have satisfactorily completed, are currently enrolled in the pre-requisites for the course, or have departmental approval to be in the course. If there is a valid reason for an override request (class requires a permit, student has outstanding transfer work, student has a plan to complete pre-requisite outside of GVSU prior to subsequent course, etc) please direct students to the online override request process to review instructions and submit the electronic form to the appropriate department for review. In the Spotlight

Inline

We come into contact with students interested in study abroad every day. However students are often confused about where to start and what to think about. The Padnos International Center has created a helpful presentation that mimics the information provided at a first step meeting with a study abroad counselor. This may be the perfect jumping off point to get students thinking about study abroad and help them prepare for a more fruitful discussion with Padnos International Center staff if they have already reviewed the basics. Consider directing students to this link or making the link available on your website as part of your materials about study abroad. MORE INFORMATION
