Hello everyone!

Today is my first day back 'at the office' after a wonderful sailing trip with friends (and my first real, laptop-free vacation in a looong time).

It's so weird what being on a moving boat for an extended period of time does to your brain. My typing is all over the place, and so is my walking. I really enjoyed how the numerous tasks inolved in sailing and navigating kept me from thinking about anything else. And the swaying boat even stopped me from reading anything work-related. The only times I used my phone was to take photos of the stunning scenery or some peculiar looking fish.

However confused my brain still is, I'm back refreshed and ready to get back into it. While I was away two exciting interviewees have confirmed their participation in Offscreen Issue 14. Can't wait to get started.

I have a somewhat special TMD issue for you this week. It's a list of my current favourite newsletters. Enjoy!

Kai

This Weekʼs Line-Up

A daily update on world news
01

I'm a big fan of news website Quartz (and their brand new app). Their daily newsletter offers a 'catch-up' section of what happened while you were asleep and a 'look ahead' section on expected major events of the day. It's a great way to stay in the loop without the distractions and temptations that come with browsing a news site.

A philosophy class via email
02

Anything Alain de Botton makes gets my instant attention. I love the idea (and execution) of his The School of Life – a range of cafes, bookstores and event spaces located in major cities around the world. The digital offshoot, The Book of Life is an amazing online resource that explores the human mind and philosophical concepts in a contemporary context. If you struggle with any sort of anxiety or just want to know why you behave the way you do, this is a great place to start.

A reading list on work, life & creativity
03

The header of her newsletter reads "From the anxious mind of Jocelyn K. Glei – notes on work, life, and creativity in the Age of Distraction." And that's exactly what you get: a wonderful reading list of noteworthy articles and snippets about what it means to be living and working in the digital age.

A newsletter from the desk of an artist
04

Austin Kleon's break-through project was 'Steal Like an Artist', a talk that turned into a NYT-bestselling book. And ever since, Austin has been touring the world, spreading his approach to creativity and art. He's also reading a lot of books. In his newsletter he presents an interesting mix of quotes, book recommendations, articles, and artwork.

An event-turned-book-turned-newsletter
05

The Do Lectures is an eclectic event series held in various places around the world. Their newsletter includes updates on the latest events (and book releases), but also a variety of interesting reads on building purpose-driven brands and running sustainable, human-scale businesses.

A weekly update on all things tech
06

There is no shortage of tech-related newsletters. What I like about this Charged is its personal, hand-picked touch. Curated by writer/developer Owen Williams, Charged is designed to save you time and get you up to date, without the need to keep up with noisy tech sites.
