Aotearoa NZ Anaesthesia Annual Scientific Meeting 2021

Don't miss the Aotearoa New Zealand Anaesthesia ASM (27-30 October, Christchurch), co-hosted by ANZCA NZNC, NZSA and NZATS.

The ASM theme Whakaora (To Heal): Our patients, Ourselves, Our City, Our Planet and programme will challenge us to care for our patients more effectively; to look after ourselves and each other; and to consider the wider community and world we live in.  We are also excited to showcase Ōtautahi Christchurch, which is evolving into such a modern, vibrant and innovative city. Explore the city pre and post the 2021 ASM https://christchurchnz.com.  Paddle down the Avon, walk through the Botanical Gardens or take a ride on the zipline!  More here including information about our keynote speakers including Professor Daniel Sessler from Cleveland, who is an editor of Anaesthesiology and the world's most published and cited anaesthesiologist.

NZSA Staff News

A Message From CEO, Michele Thomas

It’s been a great start to my journey here at NZSA.  In the first 2 weeks of my role, I have been warmly welcomed by all members, the Executive Committee, and the amazing team here in the Office, Lynne and Rebecca.  I have met with some of our key stakeholders already and will be meeting more over the coming weeks.  We are starting to look at ways to increase our support of the networks and the fantastic work they are all doing and, of course, as always continually looking at how we can better support our members.

I am truly excited and privileged to join the organisation and would love to hear from you at any point if you have any ideas, comments, suggestions or have articles of interest, projects, reviews etc you’d like us to look at to share with our members via e-mail, e-zine or magazine – it's fantastic to have our members actively involved in the many capacities available in our organisation. The society is your society, a home for you to feel heard and represented, and I very much look forward to being your advocate and working in partnership with you all.

Our new Communications Manager, Kelly Moran is starting with us on 1 June - we can't wait to have her on board!

Support your Pacific colleagues - PACT

We are very encouraged by the number of people who have signed up to help fund a Pacific anaesthesia trainee through their Masters program at the Fiji National University. Thank you!

PACT (Pacific Anaesthesia Collaborative Training) was introduced by the NZSA's Global Health Committee to support a sustainable anaesthesia workforce in the Pacific. For the equivalent of one $5 coffee per week (or more if you wish) you can help fund the entire cost of the Masters program for a Pacific trainee's education. We need more people to sign up to make this a reality for as many trainees as possible. We would appreciate you spreading the word to your colleagues.
