We have had an amazing year so far at Akiva, including a fantastic turnout at our Open House in November!  At the Open House, we try very hard to explain, in 5 minutes or less, what makes our school so special to prospective parents and I would like to share some of the messages I relayed in my brief address.

It is hard to believe that it is already time for our mid-year report.  As usual, our school has been bustling with many exciting activities which, though diverse, share one essential characteristic - that they were the fruits of the partnership between school and home which is so quintessentially “Akiva”.

Here at Akiva, our goal is to give our children a well-rounded background in both the Hebrew language and Jewish knowledge. We provide opportunities for our students to study, explore, understand and experience the uniqueness of Judaism.

Family Sukkot Dinner

A Beautiful Evening Under the Stars

Over 47 families in the Akiva community came together for an evening in the Sukkah to celebrate the holiday of Sukkot.  Families had fun with a Sukkot art activity, enjoyed a wonderful dinner together and every student had the opportunity to hold and bless the lulav and etrog.

Grade 5 Elections Project

Another Example of Authentic Learning in Action

This year in grade 5, as part of their French program, students worked on a project where they learned all about municipal elections.  Given that it was municipal election time for the city of Westmount, the objective of the project was to encourage our students to take an interest and have a better understanding of the municipal political system and the election process.

Akiva Offers a Unique Enrichment Opportunity

Last year Akiva launched a new enrichment program in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University, Center for Talented Youth Program. 

New Akiva Ice Hockey Program

New to Akiva athletic extracurricular program this year is our ice hockey program for grade 5 and 6 girls and boys.

Fantastic Akiva Bazaar

An Initiative of the Akiva Parent Association

On November 19, 20 and 21st, Akiva School held our annual Fall Bazaar and it was a huge success.  Every year, the Akiva Fall Bazaar offers a pre-sale event for the Akiva community and then opens their doors to the community at large.

Akiva is so proud of our Judaic studies teacher and Jewish Life Coordinator, Zehavit Meltzer on receiving the prestigious Grinspoon-Steinhardt Award for excellence in Jewish education honouring outstanding teachers across North America who passionately engage children in Jewish learning.
