One Last Call

As the final days of session tick away, so do the chances for Oregonians to see real foreclosure reform. An unfortunate truth of politics is that sometimes it doesn’t matter what the majority believes in, the power can be placed in the hands of a certain few who choose to block progress to advance their own agendas, or sometimes simply because they can.

That is what’s happening to foreclosure reform in Salem. Two bills that passed the Senate with bipartisan support are now on the verge of extinction in the House. A handful of Republican Representatives, including Troutdale’s Matt Wand, have walked away from negotiations, and so the policy that is supported by experts, advocates and homeowners is now stalled. We know we’ve asked you to take action several times this session. We’d like to ask you to make one last call. Even if you’ve called before, please do it again. Contact your Representatives and ask them to support SB 1552 & SB 1564, the bipartisan bills passed by the Senate.

- Call them by dialing 1.800.332.2313. You will be connected to a capitol operator who will patch you through to your legislators.

- Send them an e-mail. Click here to enter your address and retrieve full contact information for your legislators.

The two bills that passed the Senate with broad bipartisan support called for common sense reforms - mandatory mediation, an end of the dual track and real enforcement instead of more bank bailouts. With a day or two left in the session we need everyone's help. Call or e-mail your lawmakers and ask them what they are willing to do to stop the banks from scoring another win at our expense.
