Revamped Graham Condon pool to openThe Graham Condon Recreation and Sports Centre will be fully open to the public from Monday following an extensive refurbishment that started in mid-January. The popular recreation facility had been due to reopen in late March this year after the spruce up but this was delayed by the COVID-19 lockdown. Fun track pumps up action at Shirley Community ReserveA 12-year-old boy’s persistence has paid off with the first use of the new modular pump track in Shirley Community Reserve. The installation of the temporary track follows a petition – led by Chisnallwood Intermediate pupil Shannon Smith – to the Waipapa/Papanui-Innes Community Board Community Board, calling for the creation of a skate, scooter and bike area. Update on Christchurch Northern CorridorWork is happening at the intersections with Westminster Street and Berwick Street. Westminster Street is closed on either side of Cranford Street while the work happens. Work to widen the street between Innes Road and Berwick Street is happening at the same time. Te Wheke opening this weekend at Christchurch Art GalleryAn immersive exhibition that explores art through our connections with the Pacific will be unveiled at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū on 30 May. The exhibition includes a brand new painting by artist Kelcy Taratoa, spanning 36 metres across Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū’s outer east wall. KidsFest 2020 is comingPlanning for one of Canterbury school children’s most loved annual events, KidsFest, is well underway, despite the challenges of the current COVID-19 pandemic. KidsFest, which runs every winter school holidays, will go ahead this year from Saturday 4 July until Sunday 19 July. Council considering revised Draft Annual Plan 2020-21 optionsThree options for reworking Christchurch City Council’s budget to reflect the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will be considered by elected members at a special Council meeting on Friday. Following the Council decision, the revised Draft Annual Plan 2020–21 will go out for public feedback from 12– 29 June.
