What's New?
Happy Birthday to the Square!

This year marks the Square's 32nd birthday! Pioneer Courthouse Square officially opened on April 6, 1984. The first personalized brick campaign was initiated by “Friends of Pioneer Square” in an effort to help raise funds to build the Park. Thirty-two years later, the Square is affectionately known as Portland’s Living Room and in recent years has been recognized nationally and internationally as one of the most successful public spaces in the United States.

In celebration of the Square's 32nd birthday, we invite you to become a part of Portland's history and enter to win a personalized brick in the Square. This Wednesday, April 6th post a photo of the Square or yourself at the Square on our Facebook or Instagram @thesquarepdx. Make sure to tag the Square in your photo! A winner will be randomly selected on Thursday, April 7th.

Design Week Portland

Design Week Portland (DWP) is a week-long series of curated programs exploring the process, craft, and practice of design. DWP is bringing their Headquarters to the square for the second year. It will act as a core information hub during the festival – a place to plan an itinerary with folks familiar with the programming and to cross paths with interesting people. It will also be a design installation to capture DWP's hopes and dreams for the city. Come downtown to contribute your voice to the conversation about issues facing Portland and what can be done about them.

Earth Day with Mondays on the Mall

Join Portland Mall Management, Inc. for their free community event series Mondays on the Mall! This month's event will be an Earth Day Celebration on April 18 from 12pm-1pm held at Congress Center at 1001 SW Fifth Avenue. PMMI will give away reusable grocery bags, basil plants, and more! KIND Snacks and Portland Juice Co. will also be on site sampling their delicious products. Attendees will also be able to enter the grand prize giveaway of a 3-day cleanse from Portland Juice Co. and a Gorge Bike Tour for two from Pedal Bike Tours, at the event and online in the coming weeks. Earth Day is Friday April 22.

2016 Festival of Flowers

Pioneer Courthouse Square is pleased to announce Holst Architecture as the designer of the 2016 Festival of Flowers installation, in Portland’s Living Room June 3-17. Holst’s design, BE FRIENDLY PDX, will bring awareness to the essential impact bees have on the environment and food supply, and the vital responsibility we have to keep bee colonies safe and healthy. The honeycomb pattern represents bee colonies, a symbol of the natural beauty this animal creates and sustains. The pattern itself creates a field, akin to a natural flower meadow, through which the participants can stroll.

Holst is deeply rooted in Portland’s values and committed to its future. For nearly 25 years, Holst Architecture has created innovative buildings tailored to each client’s needs, while expressing the highest environmental, social, and aesthetic ideals.
