Regardless of your age or skin type, everyone can benefit from a retinol. SkinMedica has a line of retinols that come in the same strengths as their prescription counterparts, but without some of the irritation that can come with those. These Vitamin A derivatives are anti-inflammatory and contain antioxidants and peptides! I always tell my patients that I think everyone should be using some form of Vitamin A in their nightly skincare routine. Which strength is right for you, you ask? - .25% would be suitable for mild skin imperfections - .5% would be suitable for mild to moderate skin imperfections - 1.0% would be suitable for moderate to severe skin imperfections A pea sized amount nightly is all it takes to achieve beautiful, radiant skin in about 4-6 weeks. By: Kim Bolinger, Licensed Medical Aesthetician All teens are going to go through hormonal changes sooner or later, but there are some simple, yet effective ways they can make going through these changes a little easier. 1) Cleansing, toning and moisturizing should be introduced to teens as early as possible, so they can get into the habit. 2) Keep hands clean and keep them off your face! 3) Drink plenty of water to flush toxins out. 4) Girls, DON'T SHARE YOUR MAKEUP. I've had this same germ discussion many times with my own daughter. 5) Choose a cleanser that matches your own skin type, whether it is oily, dry, normal or combination. 6) Most importantly, if these few small changes aren't working, call our office and make an appointment to be seen on the Dermatology side, because chances are that your teen might need to be on an antibiotic or topical. By: Audrey Glidewell, Product Specialist Ladies and Gentlemen Let's talk skin! (my favorite thing to do) We've made it through the Summer holidays (Memorial Day and 4th of July) which means for a few of us, we've soaked up maybe a little too much sun, had a few cocktails and maybe some not so good choices in food (but it was delicious right?!) We have a just a couple more months to be those sun gods and goddesses we so much love to be during this time of year and your skin may be telling you by now--it's time to slow down! But how can your skin tell signs of too much of...well, anything? As you may or may not know the skin is the largest organ of the body, with a total area of about 20 square feet. Being the largest organ, it has 3 main functions: - The organ of Protection which is the primary function acting as a barrier. - The organ of Regulation which regulates temperature via sweat and hair. - The organ of Stimulation which contains an extensive network of nerve cells that detect and relay changes in the environment. There are separate receptors for heat, cold, touch, and pain. So, just think when we choose a poor diet, even temporarily, or enjoy too much sun, we're damaging our skins' three main functions! So how can we maintain great, healthy skin while still having a good time? I mean we still have a few more months of summer time weather so lets make it enjoyable while lookin' good... 1.) SUNSCREEN I cannot stress this enough! Though you may not be in the sun directly or you may not even swim, however, once sunscreen is applied it collapses after 2 hours! so REAPPLY, REAPPLY, REAPPLY! 2.) HYDRATE We all know sunbathing + cocktails = a good time!! Remember to take in a glass of water in between those "not so hydrating" beverages ;) 3.) MOISTURIZE After sun exposure be sure you moisturize your skin. Attached to our hair follicles we have our sebaceous glands. These aptly named glands produce “sebum,” an oily substance that helps to protect, lubricate and nourish our skin, preventing it from drying out and causing premature aging. For those with clogged pores or oily skin types, there might be an overproduction of sebum, while those with dry skin types might have a lack of it. Regardless of your skin type, moisturizing is an essential part of your daily facial routine It's an exciting time to be a part of Hull Dermatology & Aesthetics. Not only have we expanded our area, but we have expanded our personnel and our services as well. We have also added Aesthetic services to our Springdale location! Beginning July 31st, I will be joining our Medical staff and seeing patients in our office located in Roblee Orthodontics in Har-Ber meadows. We will offer HydraFacials, waxing, chemical peels, lash and brow tinting, and Dermaplanes, and our services will grow from there. I'm really excited to be a part of this new endeavor since I have lived in Lowell/Springdale area for more than 12 years. I received my Aesthetic license in 2007 and finally found my calling. I love to educate patients about their skin and help them achieve their skincare goals. I look forward to meeting new patients, as well as serving existing patients in this new location! I have two grown children and share my house with my husband Chuck and our three fur babies, Sadie, Sophie and Lizzy. We like to spend our weekends outdoors camping and traveling. Congratulations Susie! Continuing education is important to us and Susie recently had an opportunity to participate in an advanced training with Allergan's eVolution Tour. in Nashville. While attending the July date of the tour, Susie had the pleasure of working with world-renowned physician Dr. Woffles Wu, a craniofacial plastic surgeon from Singapore. Dr. Wu, known as Asia's Beauty Guru, is known for reinventing the concept of the non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
