Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the Import Export Report for October 2018.

Here are a few key findings:

  • Imported beer volume declined by 1% during October, bringing the year-to-date trend to up 4.5%.
  • Seven of the top 10 source countries for beer imports showed volume declines in October.  Mexico, Ireland, and Poland each grew volume.
  • When looking at total beer performance in October, Mexican imports gained 1.2 share points of beer during the month – a slight improvement over the year-to-date share trend of +1.1 point.
  • European import volumes were down double digits in October and are now down 5.6% year-to-date.
  • As with domestic beer in October, many distributors’ had built up excess inventories of imported beer during September in anticipation of the annual fall price increase, which hit later in the year than it had in 2017 in some parts of the country.
