Highlight: Brown Executive Scholars Training Program


2015 BEST Participants

The Brown Executive Scholars Training (BEST) Program application period is now open. The BEST Program exposes doctoral students and advanced master's students to careers in higher education administration. Up to ten students will be chosen to participate in this 12-week Graduate School program.

Participants in the program will learn about university administration, create a career development plan, participate in professional development activities, and complete an optional mini-practicum project. This mentored education and training program will help enhance leadership skills for future work in academic administration.

Please visit the Graduate School website for application information and to learn more about the program. The application deadline is Monday, November 21, 2016.

Graduate School Holiday Food Drive
This food drive benefits the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Please donate peanut butter and canned goods from November 2-21. Look for Food Bank boxes at the Graduate School, the School of Engineering, the School of Public Health, Population Studies & Training Center or the Arnold Lab.

NINDS Restructuring Support for Postdoctoral Research
NINDS will discontinue participation in the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32) in favor of the NINDS Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA for Training of Postdoctoral Fellows. Please note: Candidates are eligible to apply for support from this program from about 12 months prior to the start of the proposed postdoctoral position to within 12 months after starting in a postdoctoral position.

Scientists Teaching Science Online Course
Take this fully online, asynchronous course and learn about active learning, creating course objectives and test items, and ways to improve your teaching and assessment techniques that can be applied at schools and institutions everywhere. The time commitment is about 3 hours a week. All participants who complete the course requirements will be eligible for a personal letter of recommendation from the instructor and a certificate of completion from the New York Academy of Science. Registration is $300-$425.
