THE BUILD-OUT HAS STARTED AND IT'S NOW OFFICIAL. THERAPETUIC ASSOCAITES L.O. PHYSICAL THERAPY IS MOVING TO A NEW CUTTING EDGE FACILITY IN NOVEMBER!

WE ARE NOT MOVING FAR, BUT THE CHANGES WILL BE HUGE!

We are moving to a larger space with an equally large parking lot. Our new location will have an even stronger emphasis on whole mind and body wellness, featuring four highly trained physical therapists, two massage therapists, a nutritionist, cognitive therapist and performance training specialist. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR TEAM OF SPECIALISTS. We hope to grow quickly and add personal trainers and an acupuncturist to our exceptional staff.  Our new facility will be a state-of-the-art wellness center, catering to an active population.  It is our belief that there are many types of athletes and many different levels.  If you have something you love to do, we want to make you better at it and keep you doing it.

You can check out our FACEBOOK PAGE for updates on the building, pictures and official move in date.

Also, we would love to hear from you!  If there is anything you would like to see in the new building, please let us know!  Check out our FACEBOOK PAGE and leave us a message or email us at: lakeoswego@taiweb.com.  We will be taking all suggestions into consideration, because really, this new space is for you and about you!

RICH TUFFS

Rich Tuffs is a very inspiring, brave and courageous 15 year old.  Rich is a student at Lakeridge High and had been training all of early winter for the team’s first race.  In mid – December Rich was out skiing down a normal run on Mt. Hood and had to quickly avoid someone who was in his path.  While trying to avoid the other skier, Rich lost control and hit a tree directly into his mid-thigh at approximately 35 MPH (from the accident report).  Rich was immediately taken by ski patrol to the hospital at the resort where they quickly realized his break was pretty serious.  He was life-flighted in a helicopter to Randall’s Children’s Hospital at Emanuel.  They performed immediate stabilizing surgery which took approximately 2 hours. After that, 2 more surgeries were performed to fix the broken femur, tibia and fibula.  Finally one last surgery was performed for compartment syndrome which had developed, resulting in two more incisions covering the entire length or his lower leg on both the right and left sides.  After the surgeries, Rich spent 2 weeks in the hospital and then was sent home in a cast and on crutches with complete non weight bearing restrictions.  After a few more weeks Rich was transitioned to a splint and could begin Physical Therapy.  He has spent the last 20 weeks attending sessions regularly at least 2 x week and doing lots of work on his own at home with the help of his family.

I won’t forget my initial appointment with Rich on 1/10/13.  We were discussing the injury and I asked what his goals were after this was healed.  He answered quickly and confidently; “ I would like to ski by the end of April”.  Rich had so much enthusiasm and commitment it made me excited to help him strive to achieve this goal.  Over the next few months, Rich worked hard and never once gave up on his goal.  I was skeptical at first based on how much range of motion and strength he had lost at his knee, ankle, quads and hips.  He could barely flex his knee past 90 degrees and his ankle was lacking almost all motion from being in the cast and splint for so long.  But sure enough after weeks and weeks of hard work Rich was able to bend his knee to 140 degrees and his ankle past neural (and enough to work into a ski boot).  April was soon upon us and Rich had progressed to 1 x week for PT and 1 x week with Emily, our ATC for sport specific strength training that he would also do on his own.  Emily put him through the ringer and he handled it like a champ.  Sure enough, the last weekend in April arrived and Mt. Hood Meadows said they were going to be open one last weekend.  Rich was ready.  Ready to ski.  It was a miracle in its own right but one well deserved by all of his hard work.  I cleared him to go skiing that weekend and he did, with his family, skiing nearly the whole day at Meadow’s Resort.

Rich continues now with therapy every other week and does a lot of his strength on his own, checking in with Emily every few weeks.  He would like to run again and play soccer so we have started a return to running progression on the Alter G.  I am fully confident Rich will run and play soccer again.  This kid is unstoppable.  He is a true inspiration and example to many that anything can be done with hard work, dedication and strong family support.
