Charity Finances: Trustee Essentials

The Charity Commission has released an update to this important guidance (CC25) which aims to ensure that trustees understand their basic financial responsibilities when running a charity. It reflects updates on law and regulation and in changes in other Commission guidance on fundraising, insolvency, reserves and investments. Other important changes have been to improve the clarity of the language used and structure of the guidance.

New staff member!

Budget briefing

The 2017 Spring Budget probably already feels like a long time ago. If you didn’t see it earlier this month, the Charity Finance Group (CFG) produced a helpful briefing which provides a summary of the highlights including those of particular interest to the charity sector.

Pension paper

This month CFG has also launched the latest edition in their series of pension publications for the charity sector. ‘Navigating the Charity Pensions Maze’ is a free publication providing an update on the latest changes to the pensions landscape. It includes detailed sections on defined contributions and defined benefits schemes  and planning and reporting requirements  - so there should be something for everyone!

E-Learning – upcoming course

Our next Level 3 accredited Financial Practice and Procedures e-learning course starts on 24 April. It covers the core elements of good financial management and is suitable for trustees, finance workers, volunteer treasurers and anyone else in the third sector interested in developing their financial management knowledge and skills.

The feedback from our learners on the first course has been very positive. The cost is £500 per participant for accreditation and you could use the training part of any grant funding to pay for this. There is further information about the course on our dedicated web page.

Result-Focused Time Management Workshop

Like everyone, we’re always looking to improve our efficiency, effectiveness and wellbeing and have been working with Bright Bird Coaching and Training to help us. We’ve teamed up to offer a specific workshop which they will run in Shipley on 25th April. There is a discounted rate for WYCAS clients. Resilience not Reliance

WYCAS is supporting Resilience not Reliance which is a FREE event in York bringing together charities, social enterprises, entrepreneurs, business owners, and representatives from museums, arts and heritage organisations to network and discuss how, through working collaboratively, organisations can become more resilient and sustainable.

Simon Bostrom our Finance Manager will be available for support and advice at the event which is on 6th April 2017 between 6pm-8pm at the unique York Castle Museum.  You can register here.
