Global award for thought leadership

Research conducted by Deloitte Australia has won a global award for results that showed self-regulation works better than government regulation in terms of cost, efficiency and responsiveness – and achieves similar outcomes in compliance and effectiveness.

The prize for thought leadership was awarded to Ad Standards by the International Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (ICAS). Read the full report online.

Talking bras

In April, the Ad Standards Community Panel looked at complaints about an advertisement that featured talking bras with concerns that it was demeaning to women. However, the Community Panel dismissed the complaints finding the talking bras dramatised the issue of uncomfortable bras and was not discriminating against women.

Public health awareness

Complaints about an advertisement discussing sexual health testing were dismissed by the Community Panel. Complainants were concerned about the sexual references in the ad, but the Panel found the community health message did not use sexualised language.
