NWT Tourism announces scholarship winners 2019

Dear Valued Tourism Industry Members and Partners,

Northwest Territories Tourism is delighted to announce the recipients of our 2019 Scholarships.

Ms. Elizabeth Ewen is completing a Bachelor of Tourism Management at Thompson Rivers University in British Columbia. Elizabeth graduated from high school in Inuvik, Northwest Territories and has recently completed her first year of university study. She is returning to university this fall to commence the second year of her program. Ms. Ewan’s summer work experience includes delivery of social media marketing for Raven Tours, a member of NWT Tourism, and delivering marketing communications programs for Bouwa Whee Catering in Yellowknife, NT. Ms. Ewan looks forward to returning to the NWT upon completion of her program to work in the tourism industry.

Ms. Chantal Grey is studying in the Hospitality Management Program at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology of Alberta and is entering her second year this fall in the Diploma program. Chantal has been an active contributor to the NWT communities in which she has lived, offering services as a First Aid responder for several sporting events, and involving herself in the Page Program and Youth Parliament, Folk on the Rocks Festival, Team NWT for the Western Canada Summer Games and the Canada 150 celebration at Sombe K’e Park. Her summer employment at Northview Apartment REIT has connected her to the tourism industry, growing her understanding of the hospitality industry, and she is hoping the new Aurora Polytechnic vision will create new learning opportunities here at home in the NWT for tourism careers.

Both young women have exceptionally high academic achievements and we were delighted to present them both with a scholarship of $1500.00 this week.

Since 2014 NWT Tourism has been offering an annual scholarship of $1500 to NWT students pursuing post-secondary studies in hospitality and tourism. This is the first year that NWT Tourism has awarded two scholarships, something that was possible because of the generosity of our members whose contributions to our scholarship fundraiser in 2018 grew the scholarship fund to $15,000.00.

NWT Tourism would like to thank our members for their generous contributions to the scholarship fundraiser at the 2018 Annual Tourism Conference and we would like to thank the staff at the GNWT's Student Financial Assistance Office for passing on information about our scholarship opportunity to NWT Students.

If you know Elizabeth or Chantal, please join us in offering your congratulations to these young women.
