Bank of America
Art Conservation Project

The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is excited to announce that we have received a 2018 Bank of America Art Conservation Project grant. With the support of this grant, the Bechtler will be able to conserve five tapestries by mid-twentieth century masters: Alexander Calder, Diego Giacometti, Fernand Léger, Roy Lichtenstein and Pablo Picasso. The scope of the work will include more than 200 hours of cleaning and making repairs, as well as humidification (steaming) to flatten out folds. Conservators will also provide each work with a safe mounting system. Long-term storage will be addressed by the conservators to safeguard the improvements carried out during treatment. Digital photographs will be taken before and during this process to provide a complete record of this conservation.

These tapestries and many more will be on display in our upcoming exhibition, Nomadic Murals: Tapestries of the Modern Era, opening April 5, 2019.

What is the Art Conservation Project?
The Bank of America Art Conservation Project provides grants to nonprofit museums to conserve historically or culturally significant works of art, including works that have been designated as national treasures. Since 2010, Bank of America has provided grants to museums in 31 countries for more than 150 conservation projects across six continents. As a major initiative to help conserve important works of art and cultural treasures across the globe, ACP aims to contribute to the global arts community by strategically choosing works of art to restore that will strengthen public awareness of the arts and gain widespread attention in key cultural markets.

Bank of America
At Bank of America, we’re guided by a common purpose to help make financial lives better, through the power of every connection. We’re delivering on this through responsible growth with a focus on our environmental, social and governance (ESG) leadership. ESG is embedded across our eight lines of business and reflects how we help fuel the global economy, build trust and credibility, and represent a company that people want to work for, invest in and do business with. It’s demonstrated in the inclusive and supportive workplace we create for our employees, the responsible products and services we offer our clients, and the impact we make around the world in helping local economies thrive. An important part of this work is forming strong partnerships with nonprofits and advocacy groups, such as community, consumer and environmental organizations, to bring together our collective networks and expertise to achieve greater impact.
