Celebrating Co-op Week 2017

October 15-21 is Canadian Co-op Week, a great time to celebrate our local co-ops and the impact we have made across Canada. And, of course, 20 years of innovation and carsharing with Modo!

Though we focus on one week to celebrate co-ops in Canada, the seven Co-op principles are part of our core values all year long. Providing affordable and reliable transportation to communities is central to Modo’s values and we're proud to celebrate 20 years of connecting communities through carsharing this year! Over the years, we’ve helped solve the problem of getting around with innovative, member-focused solutions—like our recent launch of a dedicated carsharing program for seniors at Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society.

This fall, we're looking forward to another fantastic weekend with our partners at the Eastside Culture Crawl, as well as other great community events with partners throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, helping local makers and members connect by removing transportation barries. We continue to explore how our co-op can have a positive impact by improving accessibility and independence in our communities.

As a special Co-op Week offer, check out our Seat Sale below which focuses on locations near fellow co-operative businesses. And if you have any friends or family who are interested in joining Modo, tell them about our Co-op Week new member promotion—you can earn a $25 referral credit if they sign up!

Kiwanis & Modo offer innovative carsharing program

We're excited to partner with Kiwanis Housing, offering an affordable carsharing program to Kiwanis North Shore Housing Society residents—the first of its kind.

“We believe dedicated, on-site carsharing for seniors is a great way to allow them to get rid of their cars, save money and continue to get around the community independently. It will also reduce the need for parking, which will reduce our building costs and make more efficient use of our precious land.” - Patrick Nangle, Modo CEO

Carsharing has grown into a global movement and Metro Vancouver has emerged as the North American captial. While large multi-national corporations have helped to significantly grow the carshare market, local co-ops like Modo have made this possible by breaking new ground and collaborating with municipal regulators for over 20 years.

Researchers at Vancity and the University of British Columbia (UBC) are currently studying the impact of carsharing on our region and seek community participation. As a Modo member, your experience with carsharing and living car-free (or car-light) will be valuable feedback.

As a thank you, we’re offering a $100 drive time credit, in addition to $500 drive time generously donated by Vancity. The winner for each will be drawn at random from completed entries. The survey will take about 7 minutes to complete and closes on October 22 at 11:59pm. (survey and prize draw details)

Please share with your carsharing family and friends and thank you for participating!
