The experience is similar to having children – the days are long, the years are short. It has been and continues to be such a fulfilling, humbling, and challenging experience. It is often hard to comprehend that I lead an organization that has impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of community members of all ages and backgrounds for 57 years. Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing staff and community members create incredible moments together. While I spend many days being in meetings, working with board members, strategizing with partners, engaging with funders and legislators, doing speaking engagements, and trying to balance the budget, I cherish the times that I get to interact with our staff and community members. The child who learns the alphabet, the elementary school student who attends their first afterschool program, the high school student who gets accepted into college, the LGBTQ+ youth who becomes a community leader, the person living with HIV/AIDS who gets needed medication, the underemployed individual who receives rental assistance, the adult who lands their dream job, the senior who gets their one hot meal of the day, the person with disability who lives in a caring home, the patient who receives quality home care, the community member who starts their own daycare, the older adult who lives in an affordable home, the immigrant who gets citizenship, the adult who learns English, the parent who gets resources for their disabled child, the new parent who gains childrearing skills, the family who receives pandemic relief resources. The list goes on and on. A couple weeks into the new year, New York City continues to face the dual pandemics of COVID-19 and anti-Asian hate. During these challenging times, CPC and our subsidiaries will do what we have done for nearly six decades – rise to the challenge and serve our community members. I would like to thank our human services, home care, direct care, and residential staff for making a difference in the lives of 125,000 New Yorkers. I am grateful for our administrative staff for doing the unglamorous yet important work that keeps CPC and our subsidiaries going strong. I also value our board members for their leadership and support. Thank you to our partners, allies, and supporters! I look forward to working together to make New York more equitable and just for Asian American, immigrant, and low-income communities throughout 2022 and beyond.
