Preparing to LaunchThe countdown is near, and we're busy readying our new home at Breakwater Learning. On August 26th, we invite you to join us for a festive celebration and a sneak peak of our flagship Curiosity Lab!Thanks to our littlest volunteers for their hard work spackling and inspiring at our mid-July work party! It's all coming together! With half the summer behind us and much of the framework in place, the dust is beginning to clear and the lab is really taking shape. Each turn of the drill and rise of the sun brings us one step closer to the start of the school year, when the real work of making, breaking, and innovating will begin. More than just a new space in which to tinker and experiment with the latest technology, the Curiosity Lab will offer learners of all ages and interests a place to ponder the inner workings of the world, to ask questions and explore ideas, and breathe life into the wildest of designs. At the Curiosity Lab, nothing gets wasted. Leftover bits of shelving, wall, and worktop construction pieces, along with other rescued items from the recycling bin and elsewhere will find a new home in our evolving collections of loose parts. To a young inventor, these discarded scraps hold the potential to bring robots, dollhouses and abstract designs to life. Anything is possible when one is equipped with the proper tools, a bit of imagination, and the time and space to wonder, explore, experiment, and create. A cabinet for all manner of curiosities... The Curiosity Lab would not be complete without a special place carved out to marvel at the many natural, and man-made wonders of the world. In the coming days these shelves will become home for many curious treasures from all over Maine and across time, too. Join us at the Launch Party on August 26th and be among the first to investigate and explore this ever-evolving exhibit, and more at the John W. Knight flagship Curiosity Lab! The JWK Curiosity Lab |
