Dear Supporter
TEAR Australia has launched the Vanuatu Cyclone Appeal to provide support to communities affected by Cyclone Pam.
Late on Friday, Tropical Cyclone Pam struck Vanuatu including the capital city of Port Vila. Winds in excess of 250km/h have destroyed many buildings; wiped-out food crops and some have lost their lives and loved ones.
The UN has stated the storm “looks to be one of the worst in Pacific history.” An estimated 264,000 people were in the disaster zone when the category 5 cyclone struck, and continued over the islands throughout Saturday 14 March. It is estimated that at least half the population of Vanuatu (132,000) have been affected, of which at least 54,000 are children.
Funds donated to the Vanuatu Cyclone Appeal will be used by TEAR Australia, TEAR Fund New Zealand and our partners to:
-
Assist our partner agencies as they provide relief to communities affected
-
Provide support to communities and individuals in restoring livelihoods in the months and years ahead
-
Support the long-term development of communities in Vanuatu in the aftermath of Cyclone Pam.
Please give generously.
