In a few short weeks another class of amazing CHS students will be joining the ranks of the alumnae community, and with this in mind, we’re focusing this edition of the 1898 on the idea of transitions. We visit several alumnae and soon-to-be alumnae in the community to explore some of the changes that have occurred for women entering and leaving their careers. We also speak with two young women who have recently launched a non-profit organization aimed at providing a human touch to health care.

When Cathy Kershaw ‘73 started at Lever Brothers in 1983, she was the first woman in their Western Canadian sales department. Over the course of her career she has seen numerous positive changes in her field, and she recently took some time with us to reflect on these.

For Anthea Ho, good architecture consists of a combined attention to detail and a clever play between the part and the whole. Equipped with a Master's in Architecture, what she likes to call a “Master’s in Problem Solving”, she has spent the last three years exploring both traditional and nontraditional career paths in her field.

Leigh Boyle ‘05 and Holly Chan ‘01 dropped by the school to discuss their new non-profit known as The Lipstick Project. By providing esthetic services to patients in hospice and long-term hospital care, the Project offers patients moments of joy and connection.

For the past ten years, the CHS Student Services department has coordinated the development, evaluation, and external review of electronic portfolios for graduating students. This vital process helps students put their learning into context, and lets alumnae like Michelle Dyer ‘93 stay active in the Crofton House community.

CHS Alumnae are invited to a spring cocktail event hosted by St George’s Alumni Association on June 6, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Distillery, the newest establishment in the Mark James group. To register, please visit the event website.
