An COVID-19 update for our communityThe purpose of this update is to provide you with the latest information on COVID-19 and what Christchurch City Council is doing during Level 4 and in lockdown. The health and wellbeing of our community and staff is our highest priority, along with supporting our city to continue to function in these challenging times. Remember, everyone should stay at home. This is the best thing we can all do to stop the spread of COVID-19. All of our Council facilities are now closed until further notice. You can still contact us by phone on 0800 800 169, or through our website and social media. Christchurch City Council is closely monitoring the situation and sharing regular information on our dedicated COVID-19 page. Online fitness classes help you stay fitOur gyms may be shut but you can still take an exercise class with us! Our group fitness instructors have started running online classes to help you stay fit during the COVID-19 lockdown. You can take part in the classes through the Christchurch Recreation and Sports Centre’s Facebook page. Looking after your wellbeingYour emotional and mental wellbeing is important. It is normal to feel stressed or lonely when self-isolating, but there are some things you can do to feel better such as sticking to your regular routine and exercising. It's important to stay connected with friends and family, give them a ring, or connect via Skype or FaceTime. For support with grief, anxiety, distress or mental wellbeing, you can call or text 1737 – free, anytime, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – to talk with a trained counsellor. Things to do from homeChoose from over 50,000 titles that you can read or listen to on your tablet, smartphone or laptop for free. Explore our popular eBooks, eMagazines and eAudiobooks Check out Christchurch Art Gallery’s online collection and create your own My Gallery account to save your favourite art works all in one spot. Wet wipes go in the bin, not the looPlease remember that if you are using wet wipes, they should be disposed of in the bin, not the loo. Even so-called flushable wipes don’t break down properly in our wastewater system. The only things people should be flushing are the three Ps – pee, poo, and paper. Essential services running as usualThere is no change to our kerbside collection service. You should continue to put your bins out as normal. All our essential services operating such as kerbside bin collections, water, traffic control and wastewater will continue to operate during the lockdown period.
