The Regeneration Project

image

The Regeneration Project, a joint initiative from SustainAbility and GlobeScan, launches today to bring new energy and focus to the sustainable agenda.  This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Rio Earth Summit and the 25th anniversary of Our Common Future, which together elevated the concept of sustainable development to the global stage. But while recognition of the challenges is now high, nowhere near enough is being done. We need new energy and focus brought to the agenda and in particular we need faster, better more creative and scaleable responses from the private sector. Over the course of 2012, The Regeneration Project, will set out to inspire the next generation of leaders by offering a new path forward.

The Wisdom of Pioneers

image

In embarking upon The Regeneration Project, we turned to the pioneers who over the past few decades have defined and in many cases still champion the sustainable development agenda. Insights from such notable figures as Gro Harlem Brundtland, Achim Steiner, Maurice Strong, John Elkington, Rajendra Pachauri, Jonathan Porritt and Vandana Shiva have given us understanding on how far we have come and what we need to do next.  The Ray Anderson Memorial Interviews is a weekly series of videos featuring these pioneers which will be released between now and Rio+20 in June in collaboration with our media partner, Guardian Sustainable Business.  Jo Confino, Editorial Director of Guardian Sustainable Business, introduces the first video today.

The Regeneration Project will explore the past, current and future state of sustainability leadership through a series of white papers, surveys of experts & influencers and the general public and a number of live events. The first white paper Unfinished Business: Perspectives from the Sustainable Development Frontier reveals the pioneers' perspectives on progress made since the 1992 Earth Summit and highlights the need for business to take the lead.
